I don't think the 2006 overachieved, I was at the SF at the min, not QF. I recall even JK was tasked to get the team to the SF at the min.

you don't have to be a star player or a link up to have done well. You make it sound like Klose was no quality player in 2002. Lehmann was the 2nd keeper, don't think he played a single game was all Kahn. Hamann and Schneider to me were in tier 2 of that 2002 WC.

I guess we all have our own perspective for the same tournament.

Pre 2006 world cup Germany NT was at the lowest, embarrased out of 2004 and had no real talent. Before that tournament I think there was a record that Germany hadnt beaten a top football nation for a long time

2006 definitely over achieved, we had no business beating Argentina in that tournament. The only quality players we had were Lehmann Ballack Lahm and Klose?

Frings, Friedrich, Podolski and Schneider were all really good in 2006. We beat Italy if Frings isn't screwed by fifa.

have to say I'm getting tired of Germans going to Arsenal. If one adds Zelalem (even if he now plays for the US). That's 5 German players who were Arsenal players in the last few years. Even a player like Ozil for all of his chances created and assists is treated like crap. The club isn't that great and they will struggle to even hit the top 4. So CL football might not even be in play, they are also not title contenders, haven't been in awhile. Players like Ozil and Sanchez seem headed out too.

I hope Goretzka goes elsewhere if he goes to EPL.

Both of Özil and Goretzka could end up at Barca. Think about, two Schalke boys forming the central midfield of FC Barcelona [emoji106]

don't forget ter Stegen, lol Barca will be full of Germans. Tons of rumors over the last few months that Barca have some interest in Werner, Brandt, Tah, Meyer and Henrichs. These are players mentioned as being scouted by Barca numerous times. Of course they won't all go to Barca but just interesting the amount of German Youth attracting the interest of one of the biggest club in the world. Those same youth and plenty more youth players are attracting interest all over Europe.

    from bundesliga.com
    "100
Leon Goretzka made his 100th Bundesliga appearance when he came off the bench at Dortmund to inspire his Royal Blues to an historic comeback."

IMHO, I'd like to see Goretzka sign an extension with Schalke and play season or 2 there. But I'm guessing Liverpool or Barcelona will be his likely destinations.
