i was listening to the the Dallas Colorado game on Colorado radio and Balboa was a special guest. They were talking to him, and he said that the New York / New Jersey Metrostars "choked" down the stretch. Thats pretty harsh, but its true.
that abortion should just shut the fook up!!! like he made any effort to try to get on the pitch to help sooner...oh wait he did get a couple minutes in the revs match last sat.
But who is he to complain about how the team plays. Its like all those people that complain about government but never go out and vote.
anyone who disagrees with what Balboa said, or the fact that it's Balboa saying it is an idiot. So what if he never played? He knows more about the team than you do, and if he says they choked, then it's a pretty goddamned solid opinion.
Um, no. I don't disagree with what he said. No one has posted that they have. The problem we have is that a guy who was brought into the team to be a leader, spent the entire year on the sidelines and contributed nothing to the team is pointing a finger at the guys who failed, saying that they choked. Yes, they failed. I know that. He knows that. They know that. Everyone knows that. So why say it? Is he lighting a fire under the team? Doubtful, since he doesn't even know if he'll be on it next year. The only reason to say it is to place blame on the guys he didn't help. It's one thing for Jolley to say "we choked" because he was part of the failure and would be taking blame, would be accepting responsibility for the failure he took part in. By Balboa saying "They choked" he's just taking a cheap shot, kicking his teamates and friends while they are down. Some leader.
Let me get this right.... Balboa is attending the Rapids playoff game in Denver, and he is invited up into the radio broadcast booth, similar to what he did all season long here at Giants Stadium. Out of the announcers mouth comes the big question." Marcelo...what happened to the Metro Stars during the last month of the season?" The correct response is: (1) Our team experienced a series of unusual injuries, bad calls from the referees and some real unlucky breaks that caused us to lose our focus and stumble a bit as the season came to a close. (2) Our coach is horrible, he doesn't understand how to coach soccer, and he was totally unable to handle my team mates, including most of our star players. (3) Our team sucked in the final 2 months of the season, and we never should have blown the 10 point we had over the New England Revolution. (4) None of the above (5) All of the above. The correct answer is either (4) or (5). However, I happen to like the one that he gave. This team choked. Anyone who says differently is in denial of what I saw as the season came to a sad, and disappointing end. Sure...some of you may hate to hear the truth, but trying to shoot the messenger, because you don't like the message just doesn't make any sense to me. I'm sure Balboa could have placed blame on his coach, or some of his team mates for some of the antics that went on during 2002, but he didn't. So what's wrong with him saying what most of all of the posters here on Big Soccer have said semi-privately on these boards? Lastly, to imply that Balboa was not injured all season, and somehow he could have played, but didn't, for what some unstated reason is pure BS. If some one shows me something factual, then I'd be happy to rethink my position. Until then I consider Balboa to be a great player who can still help the Metro's, or any other team in the MLS. Kinda like the way Preki helped out KC last night as they handed LA their lunch...adios
im gonna kick balboas ass. that loser just because he bruised his ************ing knee is a silly excuse for him not play. i wanna see that ********* prove to us he is a team player.
I cannot think of anyone at the moment who has less credibility to say anything about the Metro than Macelo (there's no 'Rocky' in our Balboa) Balboa. Mr. Salarycap Sponge himself. Loser, goldbrick, whiner, fraud - Marcelo Balboa. He will retire over the winter. Don't be shocked when it happens. You heard it on Metrofan boards first.
balboa said it as a fan...that's all, not different then you or i. he's been a fan the entire season. only difference b/w balboa and us, is he ran on to field on the last game and didn't get arrested.
This all goes back to NS and OZ. Balboa was in the last year of his contract. He had spent his entire MLS career in Colorado. He has his family in Colorado. Then, NS and OZ trade for him to bring him to the disaster that is the Metros. Don't think that Chung didn't give him a heads up about those two. Balboa said to himself, "F these guys. They should have let me finish my career out in Colorado and left well enough alone. I'm not going to paly one match for those slugs. I'm going to collect my 265K and they will like it."
Tubu...Your post is 80% correct. The first 4 paragraphs are right on spot, but your last one couldn't be farther from the truth.
Who are you kidding? The last paragraph is right on the money. Balboa is a whining user. The reason he didn't play for the Metro? -- I think he didn't want to risk hurting his chances of hitting the Vail slopes when he retires before next season. I have here at home, what I thought was an autographed game-worn jersey of the most useless Metro player in the Club's history (the No. 7 - Vega). I've been trumped unless I can somehow get ahold of Balboa's game worn jersey from the last Metro v. New England match. I'd pay for it, just to protect my investment in the Vega shirt.
wait, you paid for a Vega jersey??? So thats what you did with the change after getting a coffee and paper....
If you consider having bought a ticket to a Metro match and having a daughter with that seat number win it in a half-time lottery as "paid", I am guilty. Still, I deem it a unique item of Metro memorabila (if one can consider "worst nightmare" among things that can qualify for memorabilia). I didn't think that in a matter of a few short years, a player wearing Metro colors would exceed Vega in uselessness -- but it has happened.
hell, I didn't think Dickless Sackoshite could top Charlie in idiocy and chronic ************************e, but he has somehow
In Balboa's defense, while I agree with much that was said above, let's be honest....how many of you would jump onto a train that we all know is about to de-rail?
Overmars,...you are absolutely right. This deal should never have happened as far as the Metros are concerned. Balboa should have finished his career in Colorado. But then again,...the Rapids are in the palyoffs (one game away from the semis). Hakinson must have known: a. Celo either didn't have another season in him b. At 265K he wasn't worth it c. He was not a good lockerroom influence d. All of the above
I had to laugh to myself last night watching the NE v. Chi and Dal. V. Col. matches last night. First,...Brian Kamler scores the opening goal in the NE game (his second in the series) and then Hernandez delivers a great ball to Twellman for the second NE goal. Both Kamler and Hernandez palyed tremendous matches. Twellman praised Hernandez to the high heavens and Nicol asked Arena if he would consider Kamler for future National Team call-ups. (BTW - Arena apparently said he had no problem with that idea.) Then, I watch Mark Chung play a strong match for the Rapids, which includes a the match winner in the tie-breaker. What must OZ be thinking when he watches this? Him and Nick are sitting on their asses at home watching the playoffs and ripping Mathis, while players they traded away are winning matches for semi-finalist. The proof is in the pudding!
Now I see. Chung was a malcontent. Just like Hernandez. Just like Walsh. Just like Amman. Just like Corrales. Just like Perez. Just like Dj Countess. Just like Mathis. Just like Petke is going to be. Was poor Steve Shak a malcontent, too? I see how it works. If OZ can't coach you,....then your a malcontent. Problem is, OZ cannot coach,...so that makes everyone a malcontent. Don't you see how this is working? OZ doesn't know what he is doing. The players come to town and after a few weeks they realize he doesn't what he is doing. Hence,..the players do not repsect him. When OZ realizes these guys are laughing at him,....he lables them bad apples and ships them out. What results is a revolving door of players coming in and out of the organization. The only players that stick around are thoe players who are greatfull just to be in the league (see Klinger, Villegas, Moore, and to a lesser extent Faria) and who wont ************ with OZ because no other team is interested in their services. Wake up man!
