It was a difficult decision to make, but I feel the time is right and I'm excited to continue my involvement, now from the TV booth." He has the passion and the knowledge. ? .
But there are plenty of guys out there who used to play sports and turned out to be great announcers. I enjoy Bob Griese during college football season. Matt Millen is a much better commentator than GM for the Lions. I've never heard Balboa do pbp, but I'd take my chances on him, compared to what we have now.
Exactly. Between Balboa, Harkes and Waldo, we should end up with at least one person better than Ty. Toss in John Doyle doing the Quakes games, Dave Dir in Dallas and even Thomas Rongen in DC and there are more and more peopke in the booth who actually played or coached in MLS and know the league from a better perspective than Ty. I would think that everytime another former MLS/US national teamer moves into the booth, Ty gets a little more nervous. Sooner or later - and we all hope it's sooner - he's gonna be passed up by someone who is younger, better and has more credibility.
I don't think you will ever have to worry about Rongen doing PBP for ABC. He isn't that great. As for Dave Dir, get that man in there!
How about we just drug some of the announcers from the EPL? I would rather have somebody who lacks respect for the US than somebody who lacks knowledge of the game.
I'd bet Balbao has knowledge of the game, but, until we actually hear in the booth, I'm not gonna go around thinking he'll be the savior.
