I would like a "ruling" on the following so I do not go and do somehting rash and break some rules.
    • We have 2 Drafts (Sand & Dust) ready to roll
    • The exception is 180-UK at the moment as he has not checked in anywhere
    • This is at the moment not impacting Sand as it has not reached his turn yet (he is Pick 5.. we are yet to do Pick 1 but it will not be far away)
    • Dust is ready to start, but one of the Dusty's (who happens to be 1st pick) is line for Sand in case 180-UK does not show up
Since it is in effect holding up 2 drafts and not just one, I say we have a window of 24 hours once it hits 180-UK's pick, and if he is a no show we get a manager (Keyser Soze) to move up from Dust to Sand and a new recruit ( a couple are on ice) to slot into Dust.
Keyser Soze to take 180-Uk's spot in the Sand Draft (5th) and new recruit to take Keyser Soze's spot in Dust Draft (1st) to save redraws and all that stuff.
If 180-UK turns up and is ready to roll it is everyone as they were and Sand Draft continues and Dust kicks off.
    Tick... tick... tick....:whistling:

Agree. I think 1800uk was only sniffing around and enjoyed the staying in VSR on technicality idea. He was inactive after the first few weeks.

Wait I think the clock just fell on the ground and is no longer working...

well, i'd vote to boot him out just because he refuses to use the G-doc.... (haha, i figure if anything will flesh him out of the woodwork, it will be that! :geek: )

there have been references to emails being sent to him and conversations being started. has he responded to anyone?

has he actually confirmed that he will return to Sand? or has his only references to participating this season been if he had been gifted the automatic triple-reverse-double-twisting-repromotion back to VSR?

i know he's been involved for a long time and is generally active in putting together extra cups, but he seemed to check out a little past the midway point last year, abandoning his cups and not making any trades for the last double handful of weeks if i recall. especially since he's been on the site in the last 24 hours, this isn't like a situation where he may not be aware that the draft lottery was done and the draft is starting. i think putting him on a clock seems reasonable when there are this many people sitting around waiting. but he's a clever guy, so don't be surprised if this ends up like the olympic fencing incident and the clock stops working at some point.

I did the analysis of all the teams last season for periods of inactivity. Many managers went absent for 6-8 weeks. Michel, aka 1800-WorldCup.com, left his team on autopilot the last 8 gameweeks. We just accepted two managers that had double that absence into VSR.

Without sticking my nose in too far, has Michel made a post where he's acknowledged a draft start date of now? Typically we start our drafts about 2 weeks prior to the season.

Michel also travels a lot for his business. He's good at making his picks early and late in the day and a liberal use of proxy picks as he usually accomodates others' draft schedules with his picking from Central European Time Zone.

I'm aware of his non acceptance of the use of Google Docs. All that said, he was an original founder of these leagues and has been active throughout the years, including inventing several of the innovative cup competitions we hold. Bottom line, I'd cut him some slack and relax and get the draft going once he surfaces, which shouldn't be too long. I'll also send emails to the accounts I have in my database to see if I can reach him and alert him that his draft is ready to start.

Well I just have to say that as draft season arrives, I'm sitting here with romantic music and and a slow motion montage of small rocks memories playing in my head. Enjoy the insanity guys!

    For the record....
    • 180-UK was inactive last year...... does not bother me, he had a tanty, got over it and came back.
    • we have more inactive Managers who are still in the comp - at least they came back, and pleaded pretty good cases.. and are ready for the draft
    • 180-UK does not like Google Docs - does not bother me at all.. I can update it for him etc, and have told him so in PM
    • 180-UK has not checked in for the Draft and is delaying 2 Drafts and 16 Managers ... this kind of bothers me.
In both Sand and Dust Drafts we have lots of time zones and relatively inexperinced Drafters (especially in Dust) so it will a challenge to get this done by kickoff.

I respect longevity and as someone who was inactive for quite some time (I've got my reasons, the best I assure you) if PMs have been sent and you've been on the site, it wouldn't KILL anyone to respond to a PM or drop by the forum and say, I need 5 days or 2 days or I'm not sure if I can work it out etc etc. If you are on the site and you have a PM, it is pretty rude to ignore it, given it is holding up a draft.

For the record. 1800 never posted to continue. Just commented on whether one could jump a league or to have a demoted team remain. My clerical error. Thought that a nod was yes. Should have bugged the phone.

I would recommend to have a new Dust member lined up.

So this is tricky. It is almost midnight here. I may pop on in the morning before I go to work, but in all likelihood, the soonest I can commit to being here to make a pick will about 12 hours from now. So I'd say, if you want to, take your time.

    Good night all.

PS, I've forgot how or lost it, but I don't know how to live chat in the google doc anymore. It might just be the fatigue, the pain pills and the beer though.

Oh, and I thought you were just ignoring me !

The only way I know how to chat, is top right hand corner click on "1 other viewer" etc.... If there is no one else on I guess you cannot chat so there is no icon there...

I think it's all been addressed in the various posts, but I would clarify that I never suggested he be kicked out due to inactivity, only that his late season inactivity, when combined with (i) the absence of confirmation that he'll participate in Sand, (ii) his obvious disdain at being relegated to play with the commoners in a lower division, and (iii) his recent flyby without bothering to post or respond to PCs (formerly PMs), raises a serious question about whether he's ever going to show. Fair play to cut some slack to long time participants (whether original founders or otherwise), but it all begs the question of how long are they supposed to wait now that there draft has started.

PS1 - I have a very different recollection about his willingness to use proxy picks in drafts and perhaps a different barometer than others for what counts as being accommodating. However, all of that is an entirely different discussion, unrelated to the issue of how long they wait. If he does show, I hope for the sake of the Sand owners that your recollection is better than mine.

PS2 - I could make his pick for him. Seriously. It can't be any worse than Gervinho in the first round last year or Anelka with the first pick of the draft a few years before that. And he's going to wildcard in gw2 anyway, so why lose all the sleep over it? :geek:

PS3 - I've got tix to Galaxy-Madrid in less than 24 hours, so none of this really bugs me any which way.....

I have just had a conversation with Hally (Keyser Soze) and proposal is:
    • He will text me tonight (while I am zzzzz) 2 picks... his first for Dust and the 5th pick is Sand.. he is more of a nightowl than me!
    • I will make his pick for him in the morning.. my time ..8-9 hrs form now..(in either League) once you guys have worked out what is going on through the night
    • If by midday (our time).. 12 hrs from now it has nor been finalised or 180-UK has not turned up I say enough already and we move Hally to sand and Jedis; mate into Dust
    Good night...

"There must be some kind of way out of here ..."

Does anyone remember a post from Michel on his travel plans? Anything about his schedule over the coming weeks? I don't, but I am getting old and this some times happens to me. He certainly had chances. Posted in the VSR organizing thread on Tuesday, the 24th, and again in the VSR draft thread on Thursday the 26th. Had to see that these things were coming together. By the 26th there was discussion on the Sand draft about an 8/1 start, although I can't tell if it was before or after Michel's post. The post just before his on VSR Draft was Hal talking about a "go fast" starting pretty much immediately. The sign-in on Tuesday the 31st is really strange, but it could be anything.

Nothing definitive from 1800 leaves us hanging. At the least it is not good form, as we all have come to understand the importance of communication. I remember him being pretty good at providing info on this plans, and his next show-up time. Not good at using a proxy, but good at saying when he would next have access. At worst he has turned his back on this whole deal.

Dr Heckle recalls that it took a similar group 15 days to complete the draft last year. Not sure we can go past tonight.

I have been in touch with Michel (1-800) and he is going to send me his proxy.

I believe he is in Australia -- not sure exactly -- anyway, I will be proxy picking his first pick when I receive it.

Sensational..... that 180-UK is in OZ.... not that he has made his Draft pick....

Look me up... I'm in the book .....;)

Seriously, good news. I have Hally's pick for Dust first pick so both leagues should sail on from here.

Glad we had a happy ending :D... looking forward to butting heads with an All Rocks founding member... no "Dead League" jibes this year !!:p

The bell on the end of the line finally wakes up sleepy fisherman.

Not quite in Oz but on the road (in Europe - Austria, Hungary, Croatia, Slovenia, Italy type places) until August 20th.

Was getting ready to roll on the 26th/27th July but didn't have much time (too many other things to sort out) and a book publishing deadline fast approaching:

Nomadic Gatherings - Travels in Asia and Australia.
    Read The Synopsis at http://tnot.es/Nomadic

Tarv was somewhat right (although my inactivity is mostly when I'm away for long periods - Christmas and Easter, especially); Hal is nearly always right; and Mark (being a friend) was right on when he contacted me on Facebook; so I used the half an hour before bed last night to give him the full draft team, as I'm used to no-one wanting my picks.

    :)

There are too many threads goin on in here almost about the same thing and I thought I read about an August 6th draft date - would have been ideal. The big kick off is still over 2 weeks away and even logging in at 7am and 7pm I can make two picks a day - if others are on schedule.

Picking last (an option that wasn't cast in as bait) would have meant that I could effectively make 4 picks a day on two log-ins. Job done in four days!

I saw no reason to panic.... but I know how it feels to sit at a computer waiting for others to pick; having been there, done that many times before.

I have campaigned often to make draft orders based on time zones but I always end up going with whatever; except for Google Docs.

I wasn't sent a league code while I was in Switzerland, unless it's in an e-mail that I haven't looked at all week. Big Soccer inbox really isn't top of my list of things to do but I've just seen that there's no league code there either.

The last I saw, Big Boat was trying to get a harbour in VSR after conquering the roaring forties and rounding the Cape of Good Hope all in one go. I guess that boat hit an iceberg and sunk in cold water and now he's rowing around on a fishing lake.

Believe it or not, this has taken me an hour to post; no wonder that book is taking so long.

Expect me to look in around 7am and 7pm (Central European Time) but not hang around. I can do more banter when I have more time.

Facebook is a better place to hang out than this new Big Soccer, so you might find me there....

    Well done, Mark (Kopite Juniors)

Any chance of sub-forums for each league? It would certainy help those strapped for time get to where they need to go faster.
