4-1 in NE, 4-1 in LA, 7-0 in Seattle, this makes the league look really bad, while Chivas playing a good game against RM (0-0 first half), are those games necessary? money wise I would say yes but is it worth it? Back wort steps to convince so called Eurosnobs fans and non MLS fans.We can't learn anything with results like that, time to take a break from playing the best in the world until we get a little better because this is embarrassing, bring middle of the table english teams.
I actually thought Seattle played very well in the first half. Yes, they were down 0-1, but they created chances and certainly looked like they belonged. But wholesale changes for the second half created a horror show.
As much as I wish MLS to get better, its so embarrssing to see how horrible MLS is compared to top flight teams. I've said it before, until MLS gets rid of the salary cap (which will also attract tv rating and fans) MLS will never be taken serious, so so sad.
Dear MLS, Sorry for that shit-show in the 2nd half, and all the damage that's been done long term for a bit of short term greed at the box office for one game. That last 45 minutes is what's going to be remembered by all those glory hunters, not that we were actually competitive with our first team. 7-0 doesn't lie, no matter who you run out there. Taylor Graham and Zach Scott v. Wayne Rooney = no hope. Sincerely, ECS P.S. I and many others skipped this ca$h grab.
Just wait till saturday. Both Berbatov and Chicharito are expected to play. It'll get worse, and on espn to boot.
not sure id agree with getting rid of the salary cap completely just raising it a good bit. According to wiki the cap is $2,675,000 per team not including DP's. Id sat raise it 10 to 15 percent a year. Getting rid of it completely might not be a good idea. Anyway the deal expires in 2014 so hopefully they change it then. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salary_cap#Salary_cap_in_MLS http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Designated_Player_Rule
Don't forget West Brom 3-Portland 2, Bolton 2-Houston 0. Then again you also have Sporting 0-Newcastle 0, San Jose 2-West Brom 1, and Philly 1-Everton 0. So at least 3 MLS squads have had respectable friendlies against EPL sides so far.
MLS fans who love to pretty themselves up in the mirror every summer for these Euro teams in these COMPLETELY MEANINGLESS friendlies are cute. Did any of my boys have any injuries tonight? No? Sweet. Time to move on to shit that matters, like CCL action next week.
I'm always surprised how seriously MLS fans take these 'friendly' matches, there are odd results all the time in pre season matches in england, it doesn't mean anything.
[sarcasm] KC beat Man U 2-1 last year and tied Newcastle 0-0 last night. Being that we have an unbeaten record against EPL teams, we are obviously the class of the league. [/sarcasm]
Most serious MLS fans don't take them seriously - or don't take anything that happens in the second half seriously. Unfortunately most Americans who claim to follow soccer hold MLS to a higher standard than any overseas team. Plus its another excuse for internet posters to call for more spending on players without a corresponding increase in ticket prices.
I say blame the grass! Don't accommodate those Euro team, force them to play in syn grass and let them suffer.
Then they wouldn't come, of course. And just as of course, that would make some folks around here happy now that a few MLS teams have been tonked around. Funny how these types of thread didn't get started after last year's KC win against Man Utd in an equally meaningless pre-season kickabout.
Uh, Evans did his hamstring again -- that's why he came out so soon after coming on, so no we didn't get out injury-free.
All these friendlies show is that MLS teams only have one team. Once the changes come these Euro teams have enough quality for 2 different teams almost. IMHO, it wasn't very cool of MANU to run up the Seattle score, but what can you do?
Most MLS fans take it seriously because they LOVE their domestic league and there is nothing wrong with that and all credit should be given to Seattle fans for showing up and supporting their club when playing these European Super clubs. To have pride in your team or league is not a crime, but what I think bothers or frustrates most MILS fans regarding these friendlies is the image the World will take home of our league from these lopsided friendlies matches. Our domestic league has improved over the years and it's noticeable in the first half of these friendlies with our first team on the field, but these types of losses over shadows the progress made and hurt's the leagues image and could prevent players from signing with our league in the future. The fact that in England during pre-season these matches are often lopsided is irrelevant when the MLS isn't in pre-season and their teams are getting the shellacking. The MLS and their true fans use these friendlies matches to measure their level and growth against European top teams and leagues. All is not bad, I saw these games and our first teams were very competitive with these European clubs, but where we tapper off was with our second team in the second half of these games. The only way to fix this issue is for MLS owners to open their wallets a bit more to allow better talent to come into the league or allow up to 6 DP's per team, the Manchester United and Real Madrid's of the world are good only because they are able to buy better talent and if we are competitive on a budget as we are now, just wait until the league up the cap 10 to 15%.
So when the MLS loses big, it's bad and it's all over Fox Sports Radio about how this guy and that guy got a hat trick. However, the UNION squad beats Everton-in-training, and there's not a word of it? Why? because evidently, FRIENDLIES DON'T MATTER all of a sudden. So then why do they matter if we lose? You guys worry too much, and you worry too much what others think of this league. Who cares! BTW, RSL realized the value of friendlies wasn't worth it long ago. It's been #TrophiesNotFriendlies for the past two years.
That's because some people around here get worked up about what people like you think of our league, instead of the proper attitude of not being willing to piss on you if you were on fire.
That's stretching it. He was pulled out right away as a precautionary move to ensure that there's nothing serious.
It's funny because if the results were other way around MLS fans would be celebrating beating powerhouse teams.
