We knew this was coming, but still... what a mess. 🏟 Venue update: Our 9/29 match will be played at SeatGeek Stadium.— Chicago Fire FC (@ChicagoFire) August 24, 2021 I may actually go to this one but only if I come straight from work.
Soldier Field will fix everything.......except when the Bears have a clause in their contract which keeps any other tenants from using Soldier Field within 5 days before a Bears game.
Not that we are going to the playoffs for a while, but this could have ramifications in the years to come. Would we just play playoff games in Bridgeview?
Nobody worth listening to ever said Soldier Field will fix everything. It certainly makes getting to weeknight games from downtown offices a breeze, and getting home from said games possible for the hundreds of thousands of Chicagoans that don’t own cars, though. Anyway, I was hoping we would only need the Geek for Open Cup games, but this is fine, really- it’s one game in a pandemic plagued season where we suck out loud on a regular basis. The new norm will probably be that one or two games a year have to be moved until the Bears move to Arlington Heights (or forever if they don’t). It’s not like we’re moving the games to our biggest rivals’ stadium or anything ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
No, not you specifically at all - would’ve definitely quoted your post directly if that was case. Just seeing a smattering of comments here and on Twitter (haven’t even bothered checking Reddit yet because “yuck”) that make it seem like this is some big fail on the team’s part when it was something we knew would happen in some form or another given the fact that the Bears are (rightfully) the priority at SF. I specifically didn’t quote anyone directly here as I know there’s a lot of tongue-in-cheek commentary within this group- apologies for making it appear as if you were being singled out.
Yeah, the team has avoided this situation with no Open Cup the last two years. Let's not forget the team had to play games in Peoria in the pre-Bridgeview era.
Yeah, no worries. My comments are more in jest. The Fire chose to move to Soldier Field and this is something they are going to have to deal with now and in the future. If the Bears never leave Soldier Field and the Fire stay there this will be something they will have to deal with in the fall every year. Like Mikebsiu said that this maybe an issue if and when they make the playoffs.
I heard today the mayor of Joliet offered the Bears to move there. Far as SF I just hate the football lines. Makes the Fire (in today's MLS) look even less a real organization then their play.
So, the owner isn't worth listening to. You know, I'm starting to feel that way myself! Soldier Field is a solution with gigantic warts and those warts don't completely disappear if the Bears leave.
