I realise it was a friendly and herr vogts record in competative games is good but that was ridiculous, he has been in the job for nearly 2 years and its still like he doesnt know what system he wants to use, some of his squad selections are baffling to say the least and I just cant see any improvement in us, the holland game was embarassing but this is just a whole new level, thanks berti but time to go.

I was not happy at all on Wednesday! I don't understand why he continues to play players out of postion! I heard a rumour that Hiddink was on his way out if PSV. He did it for South Korea so maybe he could do it for us!

    What about Gordan Strachan?

He is another one who should be considered! At least he is Scottish! But if Hiddink was available i think he would have to be considered as well.

Strachan would be my choice, Hiddink has always flattered to decieve IMO, he only managed what he did with south korea by having them suspend the domestic leage for six months to train the national side like a club and even then only did so well at the world cup with the help of baised refing.
Nope after what he did with athletico madrid I dont rate hiddink much at all.

I would also consider Rainer Bonhof, he did excellently with our under 21's for a period of 8 matches unbeaten or something similar, working at that level he knows what he can add to the squad from the youth ranks too.
I think all we miss is a manager who can organise a defence, get that and the rest falls into place and were approaching respectability again.

I would love Strachan to be the Scotland boss! Guy's a class act. Great manager but also so funny!

Some classic quotes from the great man :D

Reporter: Welcome to Southampton Football Club. Do you think you are the
right man to turn things around?
Strachan: No! I was asked if I thought I was the right man for the job
and I said, "no, I think they should have got George Graham because I'm
    useless!"
    ------------------
Reporter: Is that your best start to a season?
Strachan: Well I've still got a job so it's far better than the Coventry
    one, that's for sure.
    --------------------
Reporter: Are you getting where you want to be with this team?
Strachan: We're not doing bad. What do you expect us to be like? We were
eighth in the league last year, in the cup final and we got into Europe.
I don't know where you expect me to get to. Do you expect us to win the
    Champions League?
    ---------------------
Reporter: Gordon, you must be delighted with that result?
Strachan: You're spot on! You can read me like a book.
    --------------------
    Reporter: Gordon, Austin Delgado?
Strachan: I've got more important things to think about. I've got a
yogurt to finish by today, the expiry date is today. That can be my
    priority rather than Austin Delgado.
    ---------------------
Reporter: This might sound like a daft question, but you'll be happy to
get your first win under your belt, won't you?
Strachan: You're right. It is a daft question. I'm not even going to
bother answering that one. It is a daft question, you're spot on there.
    -----------------
Reporter: Bang, there goes your unbeaten run. Can you take it?
Strachan: No, I'm just going to crumble like a wreck. I'll go home,
become an alcoholic and maybe jump of a bridge. Umm, I think I can take
    it, yeah.
    ------------------------
Reporter: There's no negative vibes or negative feelings here?
Strachan: Apart from yourself, we're all quite positive round here. I'm
going to whack you over the head with a big stick, down negative man,
    down.
    -----------------------
Reporter: where will Marion Pahars fit into the team line-up?
Strachan: Not telling you! It's a secret.
    --------------------
Reporter: You don't take losing lightly, do you Gordon?
Strachan: I don't take stupid comments lightly either.
    ------------------------
Reporter: Gordon, Do you think James Beatie deserves to be in the
    england squad?
Strachan: Ah couldnae care less, im Scottish!

There's another one along the lines of:

Reporter: can i have a quick word Gordon?
Strachan: velocity! (and then he walks off :D)

Interesting in theory, but not true.

The Korean league season generally runs from March - November. It's true that the 2001 season finished in November and the main 2002 season didn't kick off until after the World Cup, however they played the Adidas Cup from March to May - a home and away league set-up with 5 teams in each group, plus semis and final.

This is always an interesting point... please provide specific examples.
I don't mean to jump down your throat over this, but a lot more analysis has gone on within Korea as to these alleged biased reffing performances, and it's been whittled down to one poor call. Unfortunate, but hardly a conspiracy.

The only one I can think of that was glaringly standout was joaquins cross and the resulting goal that was ruled as a korean goal kick despite not going out of play, IIRC spain had it in the net another time perfectly legally to have it chopped off but I may be wrong. To me it seemed like korea got more than can be explainable by home team bais in a rub of the green with the refs, although the standard of refereeing was piss poor at the world cup overall with italy suffering the most because of it, so maybe it was poor refereeing rather than baised refereeing but IMO korea couldnt have made it to the semis without it and I still believe Hiddinks record in club management is patchy enough that a good run with south korea isnt enough to automatically put him forward for out national team job.

The Spain game is the most commonly cited one, though when broken down both decisions appear to be perfectly correct.

The first disallowed "goal" was chopped off because of a foul on Korean defender Kim Tae-Young - photo evidence shows shirt pulling and pushing by Spanish attackers.
Joaquin's cross is the most controversial... TV pictures certainly showed that the ball was still in play when he hit it, so at the time it looked like a horrible decision. However, the linesman was interviewed a wee while after the game and said that he didn't flag for the ball being out of play at the time the cross was made (as most people thought), but for the ball curving out of play in mid-air. The timing of his flag-raising is consistent with this and he was in a much better position than the TV cameras to make that decision.
Photo or video evidence isn't too conclusive either way, however it's a perfectly reasonable explanation. I'm surprised the issue wasn't given more coverage, though I guess it's handy for the Spanish & Italians to claim they were cheated.

Guus Hiddink was not too far away from becoming the new Celtic manager a few years ago when he was left Real Betis, but he went to South Korea instead.
