I think the Fire training staff should be the first ones out the door with a soccer boot in their arses in the post season. Case: 1. Zach has put on too much weight. 2. Obvious inexperience in dealing with artificial surfaces. 3. Too many players doggin' it on the pitch late in matches. Please discuss.
Re: Point 1. Did you see Thornton's superhuman save on what looked very likely to be a third Columbus goal? He could stand to lose a few pounds, but I don't think his weight has affected his play. Re: Point 2. The Fire is the only MLS team playing on Danger-Play Field-Turd. Of course their inexperienced. Re: Point 3. Good point.
Lots of rookies, who traditionally have to make an adjustment to playing soccer full-time, and old guys, who are, well, old. I'm not sure what can be done about that from a training staff perspective. Later, COZ
Re: Re: Re: Axe the Training Staff Why stop there? Why not clean out the front office while we're at it? After all, aren't they the bunch that hired all these turkeys in the first place? (and don't forget the baby and the bathwater)
Re: Re: Axe the Training Staff These old folks and whipper snappers were never intended to form the core of the team and weren't supposed to be 90 minute men. Losing starters for all or most of the season, guys like Armas, Wolff, Daniv, Novak, and Whitfield has screwed us tremendously. Now, if someone wants to the present the case that all these injuries prove we are insufficiently preparing our guys, then maybe the training staff needs a good sacking.
You cannot hire new guys.Don't you know PARITY rule? Now its time for another team (Galaxy) to win this league. MLS try to keep all teams on the same level and if one of the teams become too good - screw-up the team and make it a weaker one. PARITY!!
Are you blaming the training staff for knee injuries suffered by Evan Whitfield, Chris Armas, Peter Nowak and Josh Wolff? If so, then you should do a little bit of research about knee injuries. When you find a trainer who can actually prevent 'em, send that person to the Fire with a quickness. Josh and Chris were injured without being tackled or touched by another opponent. Peter and Evan were due to clumsiness of the opponent. None of these injuries could have been prevented by any trainer unless they're guardian angels on the field with them. Zach's weight??? Where is this he's got a weight problem thing coming from? Are you guys weighing him up and not sharing the info with everyone else. His weight is fine and doesn't seem to have a negative affect on his play. Too many players doggin' it the pitch is on the money but don't blame the trainers, blame the 11 plus subs who have not found the back of the net, who have managed to fall apart @ the end of matches. Trainers aren't the problem with this year's Fire team.
I've wondered the same thing. I know the guy wears loose clothing and somewhat unbecoming shorts... However, anyone who has seen him in street clothes or even warm-ups (like at the Enchanted Castle thing) will note that on the field is the only time he looks even remotely overweight. Other times, he just looked big and built. At least that's how I've seen it.
