Starting in Libertadores 2005, from Round of 16 (Octavos de Final) thru the Final, CONMEBOL is introducing the away goal rule used in Europe. For example ... lets take last years semis or final as example: Boca 1 - River 0 River 2 - Boca 1 ..... In this case Boca goes thru on away goals. No need of penalties to defeat River. Boca 0 - Once Caldas 0 Once Caldas 1 - Boca 1 ... In this case, Boca would have been champ. We will only see penalty kicks to define a game when BOTH RESULTS are the same. Comments? .
Re: Away Goal Rule ... New format for Libertadores That should make things a little more interesting. Why did they change it to that anyway?
Re: Away Goal Rule ... New format for Libertadores Ooooooooooops .. sorry, NOT IN THE FINAL. The final will still be a 2 game, home and away. If there is a tie in points and goals (NOT AWAY GOALS RULE), then the modification for Libertadores 2005 is the addition of extra time, 2 periods of 15 minutes each, after which, if there is still a tie, then they go to penalties. Also the away goal rule applies for the 1st Fase where it is a 2 game, home and away bracket. http://www.conmebol.com/articulos_ver.jsp?id=57417&slangab=S .
Re: Away Goal Rule ... New format for Libertadores ive actually never followed the CL but i definitely want to this time around...when does this tourney start and end?...LIKE TO SEE BOCA AND DEP.CUENCA against the other giant clubs of SA
Re: Away Goal Rule ... New format for Libertadores 8 teams have to play each other for 4 spots in the tournament sometime around February 2nd. The tournament is going to start around February 8th-12th
Re: Away Goal Rule ... New format for Libertadores its an incentive for visiting teams to attack and score goals....we'll see how it works out.
Re: Away Goal Rule ... New format for Libertadores Under this rule, teams like Boca would not easily advance: latest example, and there's been planty in the past. ARG: Boca 2 Cerro 2 PAR. Boca 0 Cerro 0
Re: Away Goal Rule ... New format for Libertadores I hate this idiot idea....I dont mind the expansion but any thing that UEFA does should stay in UEFA....... I think that the way goal rules will count only in the first round... I still say there is better games and drama in la libertadores then in the champions league.. all in all it should be a nice 2005
Re: Away Goal Rule ... New format for Libertadores "El projimo alaba la caridad porque cocecha sus efectos" Nietzche. Maybe that is for you too. You love it because it helps Boca. Don't be affraid of some changes, IMO drama will prevail.
Re: Away Goal Rule ... New format for Libertadores Which club looks like the best to win it all this time around then?
Re: Away Goal Rule ... New format for Libertadores mmm, wouldn't this new rule tend to benefit those teams playing at high altitudes? ..Euro clubs as far as i know, don't have such concerns..... I say this based on how most teams approach club games (already with few days to rest+ travel issues), when going to La PAz, Quito, Bogota, or Mexico DF..... They'll usually try to keep scoring to a minimum, unless they fall behind, because they know they don't want to run out of oxygen...... Oh, well.....I just think it is a very dumb idea that was not thought through
Re: Away Goal Rule ... New format for Libertadores Ridiculous fuvk up European disease this away goal rule. A Goal is a goal no matter what. Not double or triple. What the fvck are we playing ???? Australian rule Football?
Re: Away Goal Rule ... New format for Libertadores yes, it looks like S.A. is losing its Fútbol identity, now we kiss/wash UEFA's feet.
Re: Away Goal Rule ... New format for Libertadores I agree with you! now, I question: is there any of your posts without the F bombs? welcome here, BTW
Re: Away Goal Rule ... New format for Libertadores i am far more concerned about the advantage this rule could give high altitude teams, than whether it is simply about imitating the European way...On the latter, i really could not care less about it (either way), to be honest.....
Re: Away Goal Rule ... New format for Libertadores Lol ... the result was 1-1 in Salta. (Pato got the penalty ) .
Re: Away Goal Rule ... New format for Libertadores The team that needs that goal will try at any cause to get it. It will make the game a lot more interesting because some 2nd leg games are so boring because the away team comforts itself with winning at home and getting a tie away. But if the away team scored in the 1st leg, then in the 2nd leg, there'll be a lot more excitement. I also think it's time to try a one match for the final. Just one game in the final and have the final in different venues each year (there a lot of very good stadiums in South America and Mexico) That would be sweet. But I can also see the local people from the city hosting the final not being interested in it jsut because their local team is not playing. This might hurt the chances of a one leg final.
Re: Away Goal Rule ... New format for Libertadores Hopefully two things brought this about: 1. Once Caldas playing for a 0-0 draw away and either a win or draw at home, which made them one of the smartest but hardest to watch winners. 2. How Santos Laguna got completely jobbed at River Plate last year. Nobody remembers that they actually won in Monumental, just that they got completely ripped off in the PKs.
Re: Away Goal Rule ... New format for Libertadores The Copa Libertadores definitely looks better on TV because of the crowds.
Re: Away Goal Rule ... New format for Libertadores when will this gol away rule, affects or kills a team?
Re: Away Goal Rule ... New format for Libertadores It will make the tournament a lot more interesting. Competition will be more intense.
Is there away goals rule? Sorry if this has been asked many times before but I'm new to the tournament rules, and conmebol.com is only in Spanish. How is a tie broken after the 2 legs? Do they have an away goal rule or does it go straight to ET?
