Well, now it's official. Congrats to Salzburg on an 8th straight Bundesliga title! They've now won 12 of the last 15 seasons. Truly the dominant team in Austrian soccer in this era. St. Pölten held a two-goal lead twice but only managed a draw against Altach. Had a real chance to gain two points on the pack. St. Pölten still trails by 5 points with two rounds to go. Almost impossible task to avoid the drop, especially considering they're playing the top two clubs in the Relegation Group. Round 30 Championship Group Salzburg 2 - 0 Rapid Wien Tirol 2 - 3 Sturm Graz Wolfsberger AC 0 - 4 LASK Relegation Group St. Pölten 3 - 3 Altach Ried 0 - 0 Admira Mödling Austria Wien 3 - 1 Hartberg
Last two rounds of the Bundesliga saw Salzburg earn two emphatic wins to extend the winning margin to 15 points over Rapid Wien and LASK. The second Champions League qualification spot narrowly went to Rapid. Sturm Graz earned a Europa League qualification spot. St. Pölten had a miserable Relegation Group in which they didn't earn a single win (3 draws, 7 losses). That sent them from 9th to 12th place and relegation to the 2. Liga. As is custom, Admira Mödling again barely avoided the drop. A second team from Linz will take St. Pölten's place in the Bundesliga next season. BW Linz finished ahead of Liefering by +1 goal difference! Those two teams drew on the decisive final matchday. Round 31 Championship Group LASK 2 - 5 Salzburg Sturm Graz 4 - 1 Rapid Wien Tirol 2 - 2 Wolfsberger AC Relegation Group Austria Wien 2 - 1 St. Pölten Altach 3 - 0 Ried Hartberg 2 - 0 Admira Mödling Round 32 Championship Group Salzburg 4 - 0 Tirol Rapid Wien 3 - 0 LASK Wolfsberger AC 1 - 3 Sturm Graz Relegation Group Admira Mödling 1 - 1 Altach St. Pölten 0 - 1 Hartberg Ried 3 - 2 Austria Wien
Correction to what I wrote above. Neither BW Linz nor Liefering were granted a license for next year, so the third-place team in the 2. Liga is given a chance via a two-leg relegation/promotion series with St. Pölten. So far, it's looking really good for Austria Klagenfurt, as St. Pölten continues their dismal form. They haven't won in more than three months... Austria Klagenfurt 4 - 0 St. Pölten.
St. Pölten is relegated, but their women’s team won the Bundesliga with a perfect 18/18 wins. Fourth-place LASK qualified for the European Conference League. So did Austria Wien, which had to win series against Hartberg and Wolfsberger AC to earn the final spot.
