Ok, I'm looking for information on a football club. I'm not even sure I have the name right, but it's Austria Lustenau if memory is correct. They're somewhere near Feldkirch in western Austria. I'm looking for general info like team colors, nickname, ground name, what league they're currently in. Websites or pictures would be great. Thanks.

Thanks. They were in the top division recently correct? Are they considered a small club by Austrian standards? Any hopes of being promoted again?

Yeah, they're considered a smaller team by Austrian standards. Not one that's been in the top division (Bundesliga) much. They're located in Vorarlberg, the western-most province in Austria. Other than a half-dozen Vorarlberg championships, Austria Lustenau's biggest accomplishment was promotion to the second division in 1994 and then to the top division (Bundesliga) in 1997. They lasted three seasons in the ten-team Bundesliga, finishing 9th, 9th, and 10th.

Last season, Austria Lustenau finished a comfortable second in the second division, missing promotion to the traditionally strong Wacker Tirol. A similar showing next season could give them another chance at the top division, though.

Their stadium (Reichshofstadion) holds a maximum of 10,500 (2,200 seats and standing room for 8,300 more). Average attendance last year was about 3,700.

    Here's their site (German):

Did you know the Vorarlberger at one point in history wanted to split from Austria and join Switzerland? What happened in the end you ask? - we were too good to take 'em in...

Thanks. They have any players worth noting?

I saw pictures of the stadium. Looks small. Nice location though.

Really? I can have some fun with that. At an Austrian friends expense of course :)

Not really. Gerhard Breitenberger (age 25) just joined the club, though. Previously played with Salzburg. Very famous name in Austrian soccer. His father (also named Gerhard) was a defender for the successful 1978 World Cup team that beat Spain, Sweden, and Germany. The latter is one of the most heralded matches in Austrian history as it prevented Germany from advancing to the semi-finals.

Well, this was a long, long time ago though...

Is that the reason you're interested in Lustenau? Is your friend from there?

Feldkirch actually. If I go visit, I understand that Austria Lustenau is the closest club.

I'm very familiar with the area as my grandparents live very close to the Austrian border and Feldkirch. If you want to watch an Austrian Bundesliga game instead of the 2nd Division, go to Bregenz. It's only a bit farther...

But hurry, I don't know how much longer Bregenz will manage to stay up. :)

ps.: andi heraf, former midfielder of sk rapid wien, is the current quite successful coach of lustenau.
