World Cup games, though, we see again, each game is too important; and an err or cheating can decide it, so I'd reserve judgement in calling it the biggest thing around.
Australia looks like they've completely run out of ideas on how to attack, they are just hoping to get a freak goal like Japan got...
I had always been told that as long as the cutaway flashes the WC logo, then it's a replay stright from the general video feed. The USA training cutaway was an obvious disney move because you could see the ABC logo flash between shots. (and given the fact that the mexico game was putting everyone to sleep at that point, they had to show SOMETHING to wake people up. )
I think a point we are forgetting is: the ref saw it once, we have all seen it on replay countless times and there is still no clear consensus. Shouldn't that tell you something?
Based off of that replay, both Yanagisawa AND Takahara both gave him a bit of a knock, and Takahara certainly didn't look like he was going for the ball. Still, now that that's happend Aus need to pick themselves up and score twice already!
They are still nothing compared to the World Cup. I'm sure there are plenty of threads discussing it though, with stats and TV ratings etc.
I agree with the announcers on this point--Japan is not rattled by Australia's attempts to get back into this thing. I think it points to the fact that it's Japan's third straight WC appearance, while it's Australia's first in 32 years. Here comes an Aussie free kick though.
Yup - the Ref simply missed the call. Simple as that. Nothing suspicious at all other than human error. Unfortunate - but this happens in every game. Just so happens it lead to the goal.
No question thats NOT a foul. The guy who hit Swartzer was looking at the ball the whole way and looked like he was just about to jump before he ran into the keeper.
Wow. Tough call. Everyone looking at the ball in a crowded box. A lot of refs would call this for sure. Pretty weak on Schwartzer's part though. Kudos to Johan.
Nice strike by Viduka--great save by Kawaguchi! So far, the trailing team at halftime in this World Cup have failed to get a win or a draw. Still 20 minutes plus change to go.
Good point -- and in fact, SBS (in Australia) showed one angle isolating action on the legs of the two parties involved. Mind you, SBS does have their own camera crew and home commentators following the Socceroos around, so they can show different things that the others can't. Good effort by Viduka there, on the free kick... good save by the 'keeper there.
RE: the replay of the goal.. A lot of ref's would have called it a foul simply because of the arm to the goalkeeper's chest at the critical moment.. Some would consider it minor contact as apparently the ref' today did..
