What is up with that Wednesday noontime game on August 13th? Is it desgned only to draw all the summer camps to a game? It appears so.
I wouldn't be suprised if it's an MLS's way of trying to show some live league games in Europe. Good thing there's a "never-a-wasted-ticket" program!
Yeah but if you have season tickets what good is that if you already bought a ticket to every game there is. This has got to be the dumbest move by Metro. Its basically screwing the loyal fans who are paying good money for season tickets. If they want to invite camps in why dont they play a WED game with some crappy international team like CD Olimpia in a game that no one cares about? the kid wont know the difference. Seriously they wont care if its the KC Wiz or the Main St Soccer Club.
Dollars to donuts that there is not freakin' way that MLS either has a deal to show matches in Europe or that this boneheaded scheduling decision is related in any way to a "plan", whether to show matches in Europe or otherwise. Europeans will have to have 1,000 channels on their cable and satellite systems before live MLS matches begin to appear at 5pm British time and 6pm in Western Europe. Kevin
I think it's probably a kids' camp day, plain and simple. As far as the season ticket holders, of the 2 or 3 thousand (whatever it was), how many of them were coming out to see Metro v. KC on a Wednesday night, anyway? It couldn't possibly get any worse, so why not try to hit the hundreds and hundreds of kids who are already ganged up on the suburban soccer fields of the tri-state area? There's that never-a-wasted ticket thingy; if you've got the season ticket and you don't want to take the afternoon off, go ahead and use it. For comparison: last summer the CT Wolves did a camp day noontime game, and drew 4 thousand something - this in D3 and with a two person front office. If the Metros can't beat that with a concerted effort, which would also mean beating the numbers of the last few home matches vs. KC at night, all in the same 5-6k area, then they've got big problems. It's not the ideal gametime for many of us here, but to call it the dumbest thing ever is a bit much - might as well wait and see how it pans out.
don't blame them for trying...but a 1:30 or 2:00 kickoff would've at least allowed some of us to put in half a day and still get to the game... this way, i doubt i'll go....if it was at 1:30 or a bit later...i'd most likely go. having it at noon is dumb.
The never wasted ticket allows you to return your ticket and get one for another game. Well since you already bought THE WHOLE SEASON when are you exactly supposed to use it? My beef isnt that they decided to play a game and get kids involved in going out to the stadium. THAT was a good idea actually. The bad idea is when they decided to put in a game that matters(as much as it can in MLS anyways) or a game that people already paid for and put it in the worst possible time of the day. Why couldnt they just played the LI Rough Riders instead? You really think 5 year old Johnny is going to tell the difference? We only get to see Metro 16 times the whole season. And after that we need to wait 6 MONTHS to see them again. Its not like this is baseball where if you miss the 10 or so midday games theres another 80 for you to go to.
It happens to be my bday, so I'm taking the day off and go'in with the family so there should be a least 4 in the seats.
Are you referring to the Copa Libertadores champions? How dare you!!! Apologize immediately! The MetroStars should pay their own way into Giants Stadium to get clubs like that to travel here and grace us with their presence. As far as the rest of you are concerned---take the God Damn day off and go to the game! Christ, are you all still sleeping off your hangovers at that time or what??!
We're all working to pay off the rest of the season tickets we bought and the one we are being ripped out of.
Yes, there is a CD Olimpia in Honduras which won their national championship in 2002. The Olimpia club team from Paraguay won the 2002 Copa Libertadores. I don't know which one metrocorazon was talking about, but if the Metros play either of these "crappy international" teams, I'll be there. Just like I was there when both the "crappy" Boca Juniors and the "crappy" Chivas of Guadalajara came last season to do battle with our world-renowned local soccer giant. By the way, anyone reading this who left a doubleheader in 2002 after the Metros game and didn't give a **** about matches involving River Plate, Glasgow Rangers, Santos of Brazil, etc., should be beaten within an inch of their worthless lives.
River Plate, te acuerdas el partidazo de River-Rangers? Especialmetne cuando no me acuerdo quien hizo un golazo de tiro libre, despues saco River y contesto con un go despues de 30 segundos? Fkesoccer
it would be a good idea if they did play an a-league team like the roughriders or wolves b/c 1- like already stated, season ticket holders wouldn't lose their ticket 2- they kids won't know the difference of who they are playing 3-one would think they would win and score a few goals to make the game exciting for the kiddies and make them go home telling mom and dad home much fun they had, thus making it a possiblity they return. oh, and the noon time compared to 1:30/2pm is so they get back at 3pm which is what time camps end (at least when i went back in the day).
this is not such a bad thing to try, i'll be there with my kids for once we will get home before midnight
I don't think it's a terrible idea either. I work in media, and I may suggest that some vendors take my colleagues and I out for an afternoon of soccer a la a business person special at Yankee of Shea stadium. And Riverplate, we get that you love the international exhibitions played at the stadium. I appreciate your passion for the games, but don't badmouth fans cause they leave early. I'm sure many would love to stay but have to ensure their child is home at a decent hour, or they have other obligations.
