I was questioning whether he was actually playing as a CF in that match because 6 attempted dribbles in a game sounds like a lot for a striker. Haaland sometimes touches the ball 5-6 times in a game so Brunner’s stat seems impressive for a striker. However, it depends how the opposition played. Did they park the bus or leave a lot of space? Also, it depends on how good the opponents were. Hearts are obviously far from a top team.

There is no issue that he can dribble as a CF. It actually makes me happy.

Schulz extends long-term
The homegrown player has been playing for the 05ER since the U8

Philipp Schulz will remain a 05ER in the long term. The 19-year-old central defender has extended his licensed player contract at Bruchweg early until 2027. Schulz has been playing for Mainz 05 since the U8, was part of the FSV's German U19 championship team in 2023 and has so far gone through all DFB youth selections up to the U19 national team. The defensive specialist was also able to gain international experience with the 05ER U19 last year in the UEFA Youth League. Schulz, who regularly trains with the professionals and has also been to training camps with them, is currently a regular player in the FSV U23.

05 sports director Niko Bungert says: "Philipp is a real Mainz homegrown talent who, with a lot of talent, ambition and hard work, made it from the U8 through all the youth teams to the extended training squad of the Bundesliga team. Philipp was able to take another step forward in his development with the U23 this year, so we want to work together to create the conditions for him to continue to work his way into professional football with us."

 

I quite liked what I've seen of his performances when he played DM (like in their U19 UYL run last season) although has mainly been used at CB in the RL this season I think. Will be interesting which position he ends up.

Schulz is tricky because rare to see clubs integrate more than 1 CB and they have 06 CB Dal in view and then 05 M Gleiber (who made his DFB Cup debut this season) for the M position too.

Bischof almost scored a minute ago vs Wolfsburg. He won a shoulder-to-shoulder duel (even though he looks skinny), turned nicely and shot from the right side of the box. It was a decent chance. He was close to scoring.

Moerstedt won some duels. He doesn’t look out of place vs a Bundesliga team. I didn’t watch the whole first half though.

 

The new Hoffenheim coach is off to a bad start. There was little creativity in that side. Unfortunately Moerstedt didn't get any chances to score. Bischof needs to play deeper to get more touches of the ball and influence the game more. It's a bad idea to play Kramaric on the left wing. He's old, not as quick as he used to be and he's always been at his best in a central position behind a tall striker.

 

Collins played as a right-back vs Leipzig and unfortunately all 3 goals came from his side. He lost duels against '05 Nusa for the 2nd and 3rd goals. He's not really a full-back so we can't blame him too much. Nusa is faster than him. C'est la vie. He was subbed off in the 55th minute. Hopefully he will get to play as a CB sooner rather than later.

 

Tbf, in his other appearances at RB he has been pretty good, was an off night for him and the team. Fully agree he will end up back in the centre in the not too distant future, clearly his best position and although he couldn't keep up with Nusa his pace is pretty good for a CB.

 

I just noticed that former Bayern players '03 Lasse Guenther and '03 David Herold are now at Karlsruhe. They are both left-backs fighting for that starting spot. Their team is 5th in the 2nd tier.

 

I forgot to answer this post. I think it's fun to compare us to our big rivals. I don't see anything wrong with it. Germany is the biggest country in Western Europe. We should have high standards.

I agree with this. I think things are getting better.

England and France also have to deal with this. Spain lost Hakimi and Brahim Diaz to Morocco. Overall, immigration is a net positive for us. Boateng, Khedira and Oezil helped us win the World Cup. Now we have Musiala, Ruediger, Tah, Thiaw, Pavlovic, Gnabry, Sané, Henrichs, etc. We are going to lose some talents but all in all we wouldn't be as strong without immigration. Neither would England nor France.

the last few U19 Qualifiers were super unlucky shit
-03 Age Group=we got Italy and Belgium and blundered both matches
-04 Age Group=we got Italy and Belgium AGAIN and Italy won the tourney that year too. We blundered lost vs Italy, had we drawn that match we would have qualified too
-05 Age Group=we played B/C team ENTIRE qualifiers and flopped 2 matches where we should have won on top of that

I mean LOL, both 03-04, Italy won the group. Issue with Italy is that we rarely beat Italy in YNT or SNT, LULZ. Always either D or L is more often the end result. Its interesting to note that only age group who have beaten Italy more than once are 2005 and 2008 Age group the other groups all either D or L vs Italy.

problem with these 3/3 Age Groups is that we didnt call up best players nor play best lineup and numerous important players were injured too. On top of making numerous dumbass blunders that cost us matches.

U19 is always tough due to BUS parking if 06s fail to qualify its 100% gonna be due to not lack of quality but because Ireland, Finland, Slovenia=3/3 100% bus parking teams.

 

the next AM/W on verge of full on breakthrough is 04 AM/W Diehl of 1BL Stuttgart.

Moerstedt passes first test under Ilzer
Christian Ilzer has proven that his recent statements about Max Moerstedt were not just empty words. The TSG Hoffenheim coach asserted that the talented striker would play a "significant role" in the plans. Less than two weeks later, he backed this up with a starting eleven appearance in an important game. What he saw apparently makes him want more.
