I read somewhere that they're gong to put the Real vs Manchester United type games in the giant football stadia and use MLS venues for Urawa Red Diamonds vs Mamelodi Sundowns. In fact I think Giants Stadium and R•• B••• Arena were both selected even though they are only 10 miles apart.
that only makes sense... if they actually put an A-list match at AF it will make the Messi game prices look like a rummage sale.
Yea, I can't quite reconcile myself to paying anything to go see a match like Auckland City vs Palmeras and I sure as F am not paying to see Real Madrid vs anyone because the fan boy price would be intergalacticly high. If I some how managed to get myself into some face value tickets for a game like that, I'd be flipping them.
No we will not get first crack at our seats or seats in general. This was explained to me last year around ASG tix. If DCU owns the event, yes we get first crack at things the Defenders, Spirit, concerts, etc. However if the event is owned by MLS, FIFA, USSF they might be able to get us an early access codes, although I can't remember the last time we got one of those or that it was actually worth while. The price breaks were nominal and the best seats/my seats were sold or blocked out by the time the DCU code was opened to us. That priority access thing that comes with season tix is complete and utter BS. Edited to add, I do remember the last time DCU got us true priority access to an event. It was the Uruguay send off game when Chris Armas blew out his knee as the first half a double header with DCU.
Agreed, that is how I expect it to work, also: we might only an earlier purchase opportunity, but expect the choice seats to be already gone..... Still, it could be an opportunity to flip the seats to help offset season tics. One of the benefits of having such a small stadium.
Do you cheap tickets we got for the Man U vs Barcelona friendly at FedEx as part of our season ticket package back in 2011? Or the USA Germany friendly in 2013?
True, and good times those! But those were under different DCU ownership. Since then, the league, USSF, Con-ca-Laffs and FIFA have different management, too.
Different ownership in 2011 but by 2013 DCU was a Thohir-Levien owned club with Leien being the managing owner.
I'd rather staple my dick the wall than go to FedEx and its been like that since ... forever. And those weren't our seats.
But we did get preferential purchase treatment for the New Jack City game (and I believe there were some others, too). Thanks for sharing how you like to treat your genitalia.
FIFA World Club Cup Match Schedule released: Audi Field gets: June 18: Al Ain FC v Juventus June 22: FC Salzburg v Al Hilal (Neymar?) June 26: Wydad AC v Al Ain FC Juventus is a nice pull although no elimination games (none of the smaller venues got an elimination stage game) MetLife gets a quarterinal, BOTH semifinals and the Final including 5 group stage games all featuring a Portugese speaking club (Palmeiras, Porto, Fluminense) I'll hope to get tix to Al Ain FC v Juve as Al Ain have some interesting players from Paraguay and Morocco.
I might be wrong but I get the impression FIFA is vastly overestimating the pull of this tournament. Especially since it's on a non-serious platform in the USA (DAZN?) I don't know that this carries the heft they think it does.
Hopefully FOX buys rights to games featuring MLS clubs and major Euro/South American teams as well as the elimination round games. It would behoove them to feature as many stars as possible who may make it to World Cup 2026 with the increase of teams. Sorta sucks that this competition is substituting the old Confederations Cup but I understand why clubs would want less international competitions that would risk their star players. If DAZN indeed paid $1B for the TV rights, they should split $200M between the semifinalists. $100M to the winner, $50M to the runner-up and $25M each to the losers of the semifinal games. Then this competition would really be something to strive for for even the biggest clubs.
From an Athletic article: In a meeting with all 32 clubs on Thursday morning, FIFA made clear that the money will not be shared equally, but instead split between participation and success within the tournament, while also pledging that the TV revenue will be split between the clubs and solidarity payments to the broader club game.
Somewhat mind boggling that the clubs just signed up for this with no clue what they were playing for, but that's a tribute to Infantino's ability to sell ice to eskimos. This still isn't as big as how he got the CONMEBOL countries to forego hosting a World Cup in exchange for a couple of small time games.
