    Desailly is gone.

A class act from start to finish.

Quite right. Well done Marcel. One can only hope that Mourinho is speeding up the club turn around by one year, by letting players like this go. But, Desailly has just decided to finish his international career and I expect his club performance will improve.

I hope most of the players Chelsea are letting go end up outside the EPL, as they could come back to haunt.

    A chelsea great imho
    Stood by the team
in the dark age, offered to play for us for free
certainly not the mercenary he was alleged to be
Big Des was awesome for us
Last season and in Euro 2004 his legs looked a little tired
    Hail! Big Des!

I became a Chelsea fan back in 2000 in large part because I really respected thier back line anchored by the always steady Macel Desailly. Over the course of 5 years I just came to respect him more and more. He will be missed. Good luck Marcel!

I hope both Marcel and Gianfranco come back later in their careers to serve in some capacity at the club. I can see him coaching.
I think Desailly as much as anyone helped raise the profile of Chelsea in recent years that made us more attractive to some of the better players in the game. Thanks for all your years at Chelsea Marcel. When I started really following along, you and Zola were the two great constants in the side. Allez Blues!

He always was a defensive anchor.

I watched his interview on ChelseaTV last night.

He was talking about how much he'd enjoyed his time here and how much he'll miss not going to training every day, the banter with team-mates... that sort of thing. The simple things about being a player, I suppose. He mentioned how he'd always tried to help John Terry and provide guidance for him.

He explained that he'd always been one of the people who liked the 'family' atmosphere at the club and the fact that everybody tried to get on with each other. I think he was making a veiled reference to how different it was in Italy but I may be wrong.

Oh. BTW. Will you fellas be able to see the American Chelsea tour matches on TV?

One of our great players, and what a steal for 4.5 million at the time. He really brought a great deal of class to our defence and always seemed to put in a honest effort. Unfortunately I think his age caught up with him and the pace of the Premiership can brutally expose any weakness. Class guy and player and certianly had a positive impact on the likes of Terry and Gallas. Lets not forget that a few season ago, Fergie offered us pretty good money for Dessa and he turned them down saying that he wanted to stay with us and offering to play for next to nothing. Good luck Dessa.

    Not so fast?

Supposedly Marcel may be offered a position on Mourinho's staff. That'd be a good move, I think. Classy. I'm sure he's got a wealth of knowledge to contribute. That, and he could suit up in an emergency :D
If Dennis Wise can for Millwall ;)

    Cork City.
that would be a fitting position for the great man, after all he would'nt have to move and we still get to keep all that knowlage he's built up during the years...

I do remember at one point him saying he wanted to finish his playing days in MLS....

Our next "transfer window" starts August 15th, although that might be different since he is out of contract....
