First of all, please pardon me for using this particular forum for this post; I'm just trying to reach as many Triangle (North Carolina) soccer fans as possible. What I'm wanting to find out is if there would be enough interest in the FA Cup Final to ask a local pub or sports bar to carry it on a big screen. I know that Raleighwood Cinema & Grill has a Super Bowl party every year (and it sells out of course); it might be ridiculous to even think of asking if they'd consider broadcasting a soccer final, I really don't know. But please reply if you have interest or any comments.
Shakespeare Pub This is a really good idea. I'm out here on the west coast, but I thought I would let you know that there is at least one place here in San Diego (Shakespeare Pub) that shows the FA Cup Final every year and the tickets that they sell for $20 each are usually sold out days in advance. Let me know if you want more information about what they do at Shakespeare Pub because I go down there on a regular basis to watch some of the EPL and Champions League matches.
I'd probably be interested in seeing it. It's never ridiculous to ask - what's the worst that can happen - they say no? In the future, when you post something like this, start your subject with NCR: (non-Courage related) such as - NCR: Possible FA Cup showing in Raleigh?
Not Necessarily NCR Organizing an FA Cup showing could actually be a Courage event if you make sure the team knows about it. I know for a fact that there is at least one HUGE Arsenal fan who plays for the Courage and at least one other player who is a big EPL fan (I won't mention which team she supports since they are already out of the FA Cup competition).
Oh come on - spill it! Could it be...Liverpool? Because she shares the same last name as a Liverpool midfielder, perhaps?
You're very close FC Carolina!! You guessed the correct team, but not the right NORDIC player who supports that EPL team - hint - hint.
More on FA Cup Palace to host FA Women's Cup Final The Football Association is delighted to announce that Selhurst Park will once again be hosting this season's FA Women's Cup Final in partnership with Nationwide - the biggest game in the women's football calendar. It will be the third successive year that Crystal Palace FC will host the game and the fourth flagship women's game at the ground in two years. The match will take place on Bank Holiday May 5th with a 1.00pm kick-off and will be televised live on BBC1 once again.
It would be my suspicion that The Original Carolina Sports Bar in Chapel Hill would be carrying this match if it's available. They've been real good about carrying lots of different soccer matches (Champions League/Cup Euro2k and 2004 Qualifiers, WC, etc.) phone: 929-6978 Depending on timing, I'll be there!
Courage Support For the EPL That sounds like a very educated guess to me. Besides the Nordic players on the Courage, I wonder if any of the other Carolina players follow the EPL? Out here in Spiritland I know that Shannon MacMillan is a Man.Utd. supporter as is Kim Pickup. However, when she was asked during the "Inside Soccer" show, the reason Pickup gave for supporting the Red Devils was that she is in love with David "stupid spice" Beckham.
FA Cup Timing As far as timing goes, it is going to be a lot better for those of you on the east coast than out here on the "left" coast. Last time I watched the FA Cup Final "live" I had to be at Shakespeare Pub at 5:30 in the morning to get a seat.
I'd be interested, and my husband probably would be, too. Another possibility might be Ri-Ra in Raleigh. (Of course The Original Carolina Sports Bar is closer for us, but I have a fondness for watching soccer at Ri-Ra after all the World Cup games we watched there.) For Triangle Soccer Fans, check out: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/trisoccerfan It's a way for those of us who are soccer fans, but not necessarily tied into the Courage, to organize gatherings. Thanks to Jarrett for setting up the group. Erika
Unfortunately, the FA Cup final is on May 17th and I have Preakness tickets for that day so I'm planning to watch the game at Summers in DC. Since the game is on DirectTV, SoccerDome can pick it up. I have a suspicion that they are registered as a residential customer instead of a commercial establishment because they only asked us to cover the $20 cost for the USA v. Canada game whereas Woody's said it would be $350 for them to show it. Also, there is brand new sports bar in Cary near my place called "Chuck'ems" (I think they are franchising another place in Raleigh) that has awesome plasma flat panel TVs over the bar. That might be a good place to try. Thanks Erika for the plug for Trisoccerfan(atics) email group. I'm trying to get this email group started for Triangle Area soccer fans to discuss exactly these kinds of topics since there really isn't a forum on BigSoccer that is appropriate for geography centric discussions not linked to a particular team. We only have four members so far, but hopefully a few of you guys will be interested. In case you missed it, the url is http://groups.yahoo.com/group/trisoccerfan Jarrett
Courage Viewing Party In DC I just took a look at the Courage schedule and saw that they are playing the Freedom at RFK Stadium that evening. If Hege and Unni are back from their Euro2005 qualifying matches in time, I wouldn't be surprised if they would be interested in joining you at Summers.
