Some of the attendance's in Portuguese continue to be disappointing, without Sporting and Porto not playing at home, some of the attendance's are worse then the A-League. Its a fact. Moreirense/Benfica 13,000 Porto/Gil Vicente 21,124 Santa Clara/Belenenses 3.500 Varzim vs Braga 3,000 Nacional vs Maritimo 3,500 P. Ferreira vs Sporting 4,000 U. Leiria vs Beira-Mar 1,000 Academica vs Boavista 4,000 the game between Leiria vs Beira-Mar was playing in Marinha Grande do to the rebuild of U. Leiria stadium.
In the 60's and 70's the stadium had standing room, capacity, know with TV and a pretending SuperLiga. Could Artur Jorge be a improvement? Yes. Do the portuguese people wanted a change? Yes per survey in last night Domingo Desportivo. But the guys making the money, presidents, League officials, referees, players, etc. Don't want a change.
People may want change, and that's all well and good - but to say Artur Jorge is that guy… well that's like saying we should replace Saddam with Bin Laden.
Pass again Leixoes expects around 8,000 supporters for the game with PAOK, I believe the capacity was cut to 10,000. In the 60's the capacity was 20,000 fans.
Even though Benfica has struggled the last few years, they have been the best team at drawing attendence both at home and away. They expect over 40,000 on Saturday's home game vs Leiria.
you are analysing the stats wrong. Of course Benfica out draws the majority. They play in the biggest city, the largest stadium and are the biggest team. The stat you should use to compare is % capacity.
I hope Sporting continues to draw as well as they used to, but with the current results the attendance might drop a little... Benfica, on the other hand, should start filling... they finally have the players needed to get the job done, along with a good coach. they're going to have a great run at the title this year
Does anyone have the seating capacities of the all the stadia in Portugal? I would like to see percentage capacity.
solution: merge the portuguese league with the spanish league. imagine benfica, porto and sporting in la liga. It would make it the best league in the world (imagine the huge tv contract)
No .... never ... It would destroy all traditions. I'm strictly against an all iberian league. BTW: Benfica had an attendance of 30000 yesterday.
Not to mention that the only teams with a chance of survival in the first division would be the big 3. The rest of the portuguese clubs would fall down into the second and third divisions since they're too small to support the big-money players they would need.
I disagree Bier. If the Big 3 would move to an Iberian league they would make more money. Not as much as Real and Barca, but it would be feasible to see FCP/SLB/SCP putting together squads that are equal to Coruna and Valencia (who are the last two Spanish champs)
Well you got a point there but I am still conservative in that case. I love the Superliga, the traditions of Primeira Liga and Taca and I don't want this to change. BTW: Valencia is nearly bankrupt I read the other day (they won the title anyway )
