Perth Glory once had attendances of 13,000 to 18,000 for regular season games. This year, they are only getting 9,000 or so. Healthy numbers, but not what they were doing before. Adelaide United, meanwhile, is getting 12,000. This is GREAT news for a league like the NSL. Did Glory have to play at a different stadium for some of their home games? Maybe this accounts for it. What about the new stadium? Why do they only get 9K for that? Can anyone enlighten me?
Good question there. We are playing at the same ground just better. It is now for football and the capacity has been expanded to 19000. Maybe people don't want to go because we are winning too well, or 5 straight home games is quite demanding, then another 5 straight. But the 1998/1999 season when Spirit averaged 17500 and Glory 17500. I also ask the same question: Why is our averaged dropped below 10000? with a new stadium, The championship, Better team, now the Premiership? I am glad the Major semi will be played AT Members Equity Stadium instead of Subi but the Grand Final should.
well NEK we had 10468 people go to the last regular season match and it was a good game but Glory were VERY ordinary. I hope the crowds come back for the APL next season. i and expect a reply from p-10 soon
What has the promotion of the game been like over there this year? Has Tana put much effort into it because it is hard to get excited by a league that is just about dead. This year our crowds dropped from aabout 9000 average to 2000. There has been little or no promotion of the game and even the local paper and TV which has usually been very suportive seem to have forgotten about us. I think these two factors have really had the biggest impact on crowds.
I think being the last season people didn't go but i think that Tana's marketing is 'Old Hat' and Adelaide United have taken it to a new level, we now need to get to that level, Glory needs to be refreshed and a new vibe needs to flow in the marketing strategy. Papers, Tv, Radio and the Internet have continued their support but the marketing has gone passed it's use-by date.
Yeah i hope this APL will kick start the Glory and crowds come back. I think mainly it is the last season and people are like "who bloody cares! The Gunners are unbeaten for the EPL!" and stuff like that.
