Does anyone have an idea of how many tickets have been sold/people going to the home opener. I hope that we get a big turnout this Saturday. james
Don't count on it.. Easter weekend has traditionally been a very low turnout for United, even for home openers.. I hope I'm wrong, but trends are trends...
United has surpassed last year's season ticket sales and walk up will likely depend on the weather. The new players will bring some folks. We have gotten all lot of good local coverage, United has put in a lot of radio ads, etc. The have also worked a lot of group sales pretty hard. I predict if we could get some decent weather there might be a nice crowd. Lot 8 will be the spot. I look forward to the Barra coming together again. This is going to be a great year.
Good weather will certainly help, but I'm not putting too much faith in a big crowd this Saturday. DC is a suitcase town, everyone visits relatives for Easter, so there's considerably less people to draw from. Also, several straight years of horrid performance may keep some fence sitters away until we start actually winning some games. If it rains or is extremely cold, we could have a quite poor showing. But, I think DC United is going to be the dominant team and win this game, so it's a perfect game to bring a friend to watch! I'm guessing 14k. I'm hoping for 20k, but I realize that's a pipe dream. -Digital
The first home game of the season always does well attendance wise. Even if it is Easter. Theres people out of town sure, but just the opposite in that people are IN town visiting. So it evens out. 20K with sunshine. 16K with clouds.
Well.. a few months ago, United said there were only 19,000 tickets left. So we definitely have 6,000 people coming I'll say 15,000 because it's Easter and Passover and all the Christians have to find directions to the church and sundown doesn't come fast enough for the Jews to make it time for kickoff. I'm wondering how the new seating arrangements will work - (lower bowl only). If we do have a big crowd, I expect long lines due to security and people being in the wrong seats - due to less open seats. my suggestion is get there early, buy your tickets, and then tailgate like mad, and get ready to party as United builds an early three goal lead. I'm not too optimistic. I just bought tix yesterday and had no problem getting section 332 (midfield). In fact, my ticket rep said that there were about 4 people in that section right now.
I'll be a little more optomistic and go with 18K, though I'm wistful for the 35,000+ back in '96. It's Easter/Passover, but I'd sure like to out-draw KC's 22K... Still, I'll be there with 19 friends in Section 331. Good times. All I need is my "More Cowbell" shirt. dadman
I'm coming out from Chicago for the match. I just got my tickets from the team. I didn't get my first section choice, so I'm assuming that section is sold out. I'm looking forward to tailgating and watching the team win. I'm going to guess 17,000 for attendance.
I'm bringing 6 to the Nest and have gotten a coworker to bring 10 from his scout troop to the family section. So if you see a giant with a goatee, make him feel welcome over there - this is his first game.
I was going to drop a line about "is easter when United rise from the dead" but I don't want to get slammed for blasphemy. Again.
i went to buy tix last weekend and the sections that i was picking were already sold out, so im optimistic. oh yeah im getting my friend to turn into a dc united faithful, and hes going, so thats one more seat taken
In the Goff chat last week, Steven mentioned that there were 7,100 season tickets sold thus far. I'm going to say 17,500, but it will "look like more on tv."
La Barra Brava has signed up at least 20 new people that will stand in 135. Probably some more walk ups on game day.
