Hmm. What are the Tremor Girls? Where were they? (I have no idea what you guys are talking about.)

They are a group of Playboy/Maxim type greeters that were wandering around the stadium today. Also, a couple of them were at the tailgate before and after the game and at the stadium entrance/exit afterwards. This was a trial run as I noted earlier--they were only here for today's game, and they may or may not be back.

Their functions were there to take pictures of the fans, mostly male, and to ask trivia questions to the fans for prizes. The closest comparison I can think about right now, besides NFL cheerleader, would be the ice girls prevalent in several hockey stadiums. Probably Bud Girl or (name alcoholic beverage) Babe would be another description of them.

I didn't bring a camera, but if anyone did end up with a picture of one of them, the idea of wearing a white t-shirt, bare midriff, and a blue miniskirt would make people think that the team is selling sex to reel the fans in--not a good idea, especially since Sepp Blatter suggested that women players try wearing revealing uniforms (and in an unrelated, yet related, boneheaded idea instituting the hated crapshoot to settle ties).

Eye candy if you tell me. I'm not keen on bringing back the 2004 version of the Aftershocks (80s Quakes cheerleaders) but I don't mind them if they don't bother the fans watching the game. They are suited more for the stands and corridors, and if were to return they need to change the attire. Cheers!

Lalas' marketing schemes are pure brilliance. NOT! Tremor girls and "Q" the mutant smurf. Come on! This is soccer not the NFL. It was funny, one of the Tremor Girls was talking to my wife AFTER the game and mentions..."I think some 14 year old is playing today." That is great, paid staff members who have no idea about anything that is going on in MLS. Good one, Lalas! At least we only have to deal with his stupid schemes until he is fired by CA.

    Go Quakes and Dump Lalas!

Are these the same girls who were throwing the t-shirs in the stands?

i was very happy to see you guys get a good attendance but i was sort of disappointed when the camera panned across the crowd after SJ scored and 95% of the fans were still sitting down just clapping.

Yeah, except when they were in the South it took two of the girls about 5 minutes to tie up the shirt to throw.

    Airheads.

Oh well. SOME of them are hot.

i don't know, i thought the crowd sounded pretty loud on tv, not only for anything fancy Adu did but for every valiant effort by the Quakes. sure, it wasn't as intense as for the Quakes' playoffs games last fall, but who would expect that?

OK, thanks. [Trying to be sensitive male-type here] That being the case, I didn't find their act offensive at all. Its not like they were running around w/ bikinis on. They came off to me as hyper-eager teenage cheerleaders. One of them was geeting a Go! Quakes! cheer in 108-109. Not bad - but they've got a ways to go before they match Crazy George.

Now, if we want to tak politically incorrect: Warriors game - late 80's. Halftime basketball game between the warriors cheerleaders against a bunch of midgits (oops, vertically challenged individuals). The midgets would feel up the cheerleaders every time the cheerleaders attempted a shot.

There were practically no vendors in the stands (guess they didn't take my advice to triple the vending staff). My husband went up top just before the half to get us lemonades, and on his return ran into the halftime crush--heard a lot of grumbling from unhappy people along the lines of "next time I'll watch on tv."

I actually find the warriors stunt less offensive than the junior lapdancers. I mean, I didn't see it, but at least it sounds kind of campy (albeit predictable) rather than just straight airhead t&a (husband noted that one of the t-girls had her t-shirt rolled up even farther, to reveal maximum skin). Can't Alexi just rent a couple of them for his own use and leave us out of it?

I agree, the BCs were leading cheers. The TGs appeared to be the giggling type.

Let's not trade for Adu or get a young nike whore for out team.
If we do, Spartan will become 1:00 Stadium.

Please let's not knock the Tremors. I had some die-hard eurosnob friends say they enjoyed their first live MLS game Saturday, liked Spartan and would go back because there were "tonnes of birds." I know latino-soccer snobs who used to like all the hoochie mamas at the Clash games.

I have NO problem with that, these are peaceful, considerate ticket buyers who know the game and are primarily there to roar for good play.

Pro sports aren't a very P.C. realm but US soccer audiences are pretty respectable compared to the other major sports. Are we hoping to keep away folks who might:

    *Cuss?
*imply that an opponent is less than masculine?
*buy a SI swimsuit issue or watch Friends for the T&A?
*Whistle at a woman - or at our national anthem?
*Like to see those soccer players legs?
*Think it's hilarious when somebody gets kicked in the balls?
*Harbor a pubescent admiration for Heather Mitts?
*Glorify alcohol - our national tragedy?
*Make public allegations about a referee's masturbation habits?
*Enjoy watching performing animals, esp dogs that catch frisbees?
*Come for the soccer, stay for the Aaaaaabzzzzzzzzzzzzz?
    *Expose their Aaaaaabbzzzzzzzzzzz?
*Lust for a lesbian tryst with Veronica Paysee?

I'm sure you can add to this list. The point is, Spartan Stadium already feels more like Plymouth Rock than a sports event for most Earthquake games. Is there a line we shouldn't cross? Sure! But I think we have to loosen up a bit to persuade key fans that this is entertainment.

Q for the kiddies, sandwiches for the press, Blew Crew for the folks who are only excited by the slim prospect of a free t-shirt, and Tremors greeters for the average young, male, ABSOLUTELY FREAKING CRITICAL sports fan?

    No prob.

Add to my list that I have no prob with the idea of wearing a white t-shirt, bare midriff, and a blue miniskirt. Cheers Aimer!

Seriously, as long as the cheerleaders are in the stands, not blocking the action and helping to bring back fans, I'm in favor of it for our attendance-starved team.

Just don't play "Maniac" while the game's going on.

    Spot on, Noah.

Either through purpose or neglect we've pretty much maxed on the "hard-core" market and virtually ignored the casual fan. It's the casual fan that would put us over the top of whatever hill we need to climb. If trappings like Noah laid out are what brings the casual fan in or brings the casual fan back, as long as it doesn't detract from game presentation, more power to us.

Funniest thing I heard all day was from one of the "Tremmor Girls" at the tailgate (who admitted by the way that she knew nothing about soccer) was "Alexi told us Freedy Adu would be here next week". All in all a pretty lame idea, that being said though I got myself a free T shirt and I never mind eye candy! :D

    Props to Noah:

I can't get the image of me participating in a three-way w/ Veronica Paysee one of the Tremor Girls with "Maniac" playing in the background.

First off, i'm not dumb(contrary to popular belief).......I know what they were going for with the Tremor girls. "trappings" if you will. Honestly.....i'm not against anything that will bring in attendance. Would I let my daughter parade around in the Hooters Jr outfits that the Tremor Girls were sporting, probably not but look around, there were a ton of girls dressed alot worse than that in the crowd. The dancer analogy doesn't fly.....if the dancers were all ugly and fat, there is no way they would be dancing at a pro sporting event no matter if they had moves galore. It objectifies women either way.....Otherwise groups like the Crewzers would be dancing in baggy sweats.......sans make-up and hairdo. The lap-dance and stripper analogy, although funny, was extreme.....That being said, I appreciate seeing something new going on even if I don't think it's gonna work. Spartacus nailed it......we've tapped out the hardcore fan......let's go for the casual fan. Spartan1....get some of these beer vendors to bring in some of their spokesmodels to meet and greet. DONOVAN vs GUEVERA....AND THE BUDWEISER GIRLS at SPARTAN STADIUM!!! Maybe the d-cups will make us forget the Dixie cups.;) Yes.....once again, i went there!

Attendance was an improvement obviously from the help of ADU and the interest he has brought to those that are involved with soccer but have not been interested in MLS. Thanks Freddie for helping us out.
Atmosphere: Quite overall yes indeed. Reasons? newer fans watching the game under a hot sun, older fans studying a good match. DC has been an excellent 1st half team. Until the Quakes made a lead it was all nerves for me. Quakes have a very depleted Defense these days. The way the referee was dealing cards it felt there was danger on the horizon that we could be playing short yet again. It was a mellow day in the stands. But look at SJ record. We are currently sharing the Bottom of the table with a winless Columbus. At least this game was entertaining and played well by both teams.
Those that complain about atmosphere are obviously not creating it themselves. Stop looking around for a leader with a drum, a teeny bopper temping you with a free t-shirt, a blue crew poster boy cueing up the crowd with a chant. You all Demand good soccer on the field, Excellence from the referees, Brilliance from the front office and the league. I challenge you! Stand UP and be heard in the stands. Stop looking around on this site for some leadership. Do it yourself. Take the ball, dribble it yourself, take a shot and try to put it on frame. If you miss maybe the chump next to you will collect your rebound and make something of it. Print out a 1000 song sheets. Give them to those in the hot pants to distribute for you.
