It's gonna be a sell-0ut. With the walk-up crowd, I predict 27K. Adu will probably sell out the following game, too, especially because he's just about to be featured on CBS's "60 Minutes". Topper
PREDICTIONS FOR HOME OPENER: They WILL sell out. There will be large blocks of open seats because of sponsor blocks that were not given away, people watching from Stadium Club, etc. People will claim LAG inflated attendence - but they didn't. Someone on BigSoccer (probably from KC, and probably someone who goes to one or two games a year) will post about how "pitiful" it is that LAG can't sell out for their home opener. There will be twice as many people attending the NER @ LAG game than there will be at Spartan watching last year's chumps.
Except for the fact there'll be 27,000 more people than in San Jose since San Jose doesn't play on that day.
When they report the attendance at Smurf Park, do they include the two teams that are playing, the coaches, refs, etc? Because that would about double their figures and be really misleading.....
Whooops. My mistake. But, in my own defense, sometimes its real hard to tell the difference between the crowd at a Smurfs opening day and the crowd at a Smurfs open date.
If they counted the Ultra-Smurfette's banners, it would quadruple attendance. Topper PS: GO GALAXY!!! KILL!!! GRRRRR!!!
smurfs will have a good opening day this year, then they'll go back to their usual 13000 as for LA, I think we'll have at least 25000 for the first 4 games.
One of the things I really like about the HDC is that there is LOTS of room. It's easy to get up and walk around, unlike a lot of stadiums. Ever been in the Rose Bowl or Coliseum when full? Yikes! I could swear there always about 2-3K people 'in motion' at any point during Galaxy games.......
But as we know from Santa Barbara, you have to do the counting in the first half because the "ultras" give up on their team as soon as they fall behind.
I just checked Ticketmaster, and there seems to be some tickets left - mostly in 137 (Riot Squad take note: bring a friend) I only wish I could be there with you. Instead, I will just be sitting watching at home.
Talked with one of the staffers tonight at the pub crawl & he told me that there are still tickets for sale. In fact, he tried to sell me tickets to 137 & somewhere in the upper deck. Not quite sold out.
I really admire the Galaxy you guys seem to always have big crowds. All the hype is at DC where they are going crazy b/c they are sold out at 24,600 but you guys are selling out a far far far less hyped game with 3000 more people like it's no big deal. Congrats
And it stayed that way: 25,152 per MLSnet. Seemed like there were more empty seats on the west side than on the east. I guess some of the season ticket holders didn't think the Revs were a good show.
You know, I was about to declare a victory - in that the opening day average looked to be above 21K. Then I read the Dallas stats. 7,000? Can that be real? I'm going over to their boards for an explanation. . .
Great attendance Galaxy fans! You all looked and sounded great on tv. I love Victoria Street games at night.
I'll be visiting for the Gran Prix at Long Beach and have arranged for accomodations at the Hampton Inn, in Carson. I read that it is only a 1/4 mile from HDC, I assume it's a walkable route? Any insight for an out of towner as to what the ticket situation will be for the 4/17 match vs Crew? Looking forward to seeing the HDC and MLS after only getting to see our local A-League team in recent years.
The CART grand prix of Long Beach is going to be awesome! I'll be watching it on Spike TV as I'm in NYC. But are there any Galaxy fans going to the race? I hope Jimmy Vasser or Paul Tracy win it !!!
