I was wondering: what type of atmosphere do you prefer at the stadium?

Now, to be honest, I've never seen an MLS game in person. But the constant horn-blowing and drum-beating is a bit cacophonous for me.

That having been said, I really liked the way the crowd sounded at the TFC match on Saturday. It was loud, but I much prefer fan noise over instrument noise.

But that could just be my upbringing, but that's a joke no one will get.;)

It depends on what kind of fans you have.

DC sounds pretty good drumming and yelling no matter what happens

TFC sounds awesome when they chant in response to what is happening during the match.

I think The Inferno in Dallas is somewhere in between, the drum and chant the whole match but do respond to the match with their chants.

edit: I am in no way comparing Dallas' atmosphere to DC or Toronto, so STFU.

Toronto has more of a British atmosphere where as the rest of the MLS clubs seem to have a latin american feel (drums, horns etc.). I personal prefer the Toronto match.

Almost anyone can make noise for 90 min.

What sets a good crowd apart from a bad one, is the ability to sing in unison for the entire lenght of the game.

There were drums at the Toronto home opener. They just couldn't be
heard amongst the loud cheering fans.

I watched the toronto game on the net and say it was an english atmosphers is doing U-Sector and the RPB's an injustice. English premiership stadiums are like libraries these days. The fans aren't even allowed to stand or simply choose not to. TFC fans seem alot better that most fans of EPL clubs (barring a few exceptions)

Make sure to have at least one drum and drummer.

Sing for 90 minutes +. Match your Hinchada's flow with the action on the field

    Don't stop.

Horns cause cancer. And by horns, I'm referring to the long plastic abortions that most kids like to blow for 90 minutes straight. F those things. The Riot Squad worked hard to get them banned from the HDC for all Galaxy matches and oh, what a relief.

    Anyone?

Ok, tell that to the crickets chirping at most MLS games....

Toronto's home opener, the crowd was standing for 90 minutes singing and chanting, not everyone can do that...it takes a special group of people, hell first you need people!

I actually prefer total silence. I like to hear myself think during a game, I like to hear the ball skip accross the just watered grass. I like to hear the boom of the ball when a foot hits it. Ahh, nothing beats total silence at a game.

    Hasty generalization.
I would bet every MLS club has a small group of people that beat drums and sing/chant for the whole 90 minutes. Toronto is the exception. Until the MLS FO's are able to market the game to REAL fans and not families, they will continue to be small groups.

IMO MLS will grow slowly in this reguard while the younger fans that grow up watching are old enough to be in those supporter groups.

I agree, it'll take some time to build a good generation of supporter groups. But I also agree that MLS still caters to youth and families....
I love watching EPL because the fans are die hard into the game....

And the best part was, when the TFC fans sang "All we are saying, is give us a goal", Kansas City obliged. :p

BTW, singing for the entire length of the game, is making noise for 90 minutes.
