Injury Report

Atletico Madrid:Atlético de Madrid player Sergio Agüero did not participate in the training session held on Wednesday morning in Majadahonda. The striker, along with the Chief of Medical Services of the organization, Mr. José María Villalón, and his teammates Pablo and Juanito, to the Fremap Clinic to undergo various tests to find out the severity of his injury.

The Argentine is suffering from a hamstring strain. With regard to Pablo, he as a muscle contusion in his left quadriceps. For his part, centre back Juanito has a 1st degree muscular injury in his left hamstring.

Real Madrid : Real Madrid started training at 16:30 this afternoon, just over twelve hours after landing
in Madrid after their match in Milan. Yesterday's starters, plus Guti
and Garay, tackled a recovery session in the gym and on the pitch. The
rest, including Xabi Alonso, trained aside from the squad. Pepe and
Cristiano Ronaldo missed the session.
The players jogged around the pitch and stretched
their muscles before dividing into two groups. Those who played last
night jogged some more before leaving for the gym while the rest did ball movement exercises.

Guti and Garay also went to the gym after some more jogging exercises.
Dudek and Adan trained with goalkeeper coach Xabier Mancisidor. Pepe and Ronaldo did recovery work in the gym.

haha i like it too, glad we are on the same page.

Athletico is a pretty weird team, if we can totaly dominate this game and really destroy them, it truly would be a memorable derby.

The truth is, i think we will probably just edge this game.

was it against pathetico that ruud scored that crazy goal out of nowhere outside the box a season or so back? i hope he gets a good chunk of time whether he starts or not. we need his deadly prowling inside that box.

Remember what happened after that goal though? Ruud was dubiously sent off, Raul had a sure goal prevented because of a horrid offsides call, Simao equalized late in the second half and we escaped with a win on a late Higuain penalty. Oh, and Iker told off their ball boy

I'm not sure I can take that much 'excitement' this time around....

Subscribed, now let's beat those scrubs! Lass can rest later, we need him for this one. I guess it's Metz for Albiol, or Ramos to CB and Arbeloa back on the right. I'd prefer Ramos at CB personally, to cope with the speed of Aguero and Forlan.

Why not Garay in with Pepe and keep Ramos at RB? Metzelder is way too slow and looked even slower against Alcorcon so i don't know if i'd trust him to handle the movement of Sergio Aguero and Forlan. Although Metzelder is desperate to play. I'd like to see Garay given more chances. I think if he gets the confidence of the coach and gets a string of games in with Pepe, he can turn out to be a very very good player.

Raul press conference

You've been benched in two games. Do you think you'll play in the derby?
I don't know. The coach will decide tomorrow. The team responded well in the last two games, but one must always be ready and be in optimum form in order to make good use of any chances he may get.

Do you understand being benched?
There is nothing for me to understand. I am just another player on this squad. I have to work. I can't complain about the season I've had so far. I believe the team as a whole is what really matters and we have improved of late. We must focus on our games against Atletico and Alcorcon.

Is this an uneven derby?
It is always complicated to play at the Calderon. Atletico have improved with their new coach. They deserved to win against Chelsea and they are more confident now despite their Champions League elimination.

What do you think of Guti's situation?
Guti is a very important player. He is training and recovering.

What do you think of the possible club strike?
I think we should all play according to the same set of rules. We'll see what happens.

Would it be a disappointment for you to miss the derby?
It's a matter of circumstances. One must always be ready. All my team-mates are doing a great job and I wish to play, but it's up to the coach to decide.

What message do you have for Cristiano?
He has to remain calm and be patient. He is a very important player who needs to be completely recovered. We hope he returns to us as soon as possible.

Has the team already forgotten about the match in Alcorcon?
We haven't forgotten about it because the knockout stage isn't over yet. We'll start to think about our next game against them on Sunday.

Is there a player in particular you feel you are incompatible with?

Pepe,Guti & Garay recover.Cristiano Ronaldo was the only player who missed the session to do specific recovery work.

Manuel Pellegrini likes touch football and made his men do ball exercises after jogging around the pitch and doing some stretching workouts. The Madridistas practiced on keeping possession.

Director General Jorge Valdano attended the session at Valdebebas.

As other posters mentioned, it could be positive- in the sense that the team grows without depending on Ronaldo.

Possibly, but Ronaldo needs to be a part of that cohesive group. He was doing well individually before the injury, but we want the starting XI to have great familiarity with each other and he will be the focal point of all that.
