That should have beenn a striaght red to the Alanta player. A nasty foul, intent to injure, and out of bounds? And the AR right there watching? Did their guy even get a yellow? (I couldn't watch the game, so I've no idea.) I'd have gotten a red card for that for sure. Go Quakes!! - Mark
No, no card, no talking to, Penso content to aid Atlanta is its win at home. If the Disco does not reward a red for that play and fine him, the league is a travesty. Yes, that deliberate foul does not get unrewarded.
More crazy talk, Mark. A foul? Sure. Yellow? Meh. Red? Definitely not. If it was so egregious it would be reviewed by the DISCO, which it won't be. It's one thing to be irked that a foul wasn't called there, but, to elevate it to something it wasn't is just ridiculous.
You mean like how Accam's stomp on Espinoza was not reviewed by DISCO? Was that unpunished foul not red-card worthy? Your definition of "egregious" differs significantly from mine. I'm with Angry Mark on this one. A battery was committed on Shea Salinas out of bounds. Nothing. Meanwhile, Wondo says bad words, also out of bounds. Straight red. From an official whom, we're told, is not bothered by hecklers. He's obviously bothered even less by actual violence.
Foul out of bounds is a yellow, period. The ball was out of play, both players were over the touchline it's a yellow, no question, no thinking. Forearm to the back is a yellow card, anywhere. Hand to an opposing player's neck is a red, period. What am I missing?! When you deliberately knock an opposing player to the ground, it's a foul. If you forearm the player's back to achieve that, it's a yellow, when you do that out of bounds, it's a red. sorry. Go Quakes!! - Mark

Data says Penso is trigger happy. https://www.sounderatheart.com/2018/3/22/17149752/chris-penso-referee-sounders
Was this before or after he got slammed into the video board? 🤔 https://t.co/0WIq6UYVry— Paul Dewhurst (@dewhurst_paul) September 24, 2019
You are missing the fact that the initial contact happened on the field and not out of bounds. And did you notice that the announcers were thinking Salinas was the one that might get ejected? (not that I agree with them).
The contact happened both in bounds (the two-handed shove) and out of bounds (the separate and seemingly deliberate shot to the head). You watch the video again.
So, the foul happened inbounds now? And a shot to the head? It looks like the player is trying to grab the ball as Salinas is trying to shield it. Salinas could have received a yellow for grabbing the ball and running off with it.
So Disco has ruled... no penalties for Atlanta (of course not, they are angels!) and Almeyda gets fined for not leaving promptly. So it is Okay to attack Salinas apparently, but not OK to swear at Penso. Let's get our priorities straight! And Penso skates again. I vow, if Penso ever refs another game at Avaya he gets booed when he is announced, when he enters the field, when he leaves the field.
I have already proven to be a much better witness than you. The foul happened in bounds and there was absolutely no two handed shove. If you freeze the frame the second it goes to the sideline view it is clear the Atlanta player is shouldering Salinas as much from the side as he is from the back. The announcers had it right when they said it was just a shoulder charge. And there is nothing that shows with any clarity that the player gave Salinas a "shot to the head," nor does Salinas react like he was struck in the head. Wondo got himself tossed for no real reason.
