Is Birmingham going to get a pro soccer team? http://www.rantsports.com/soccer/20...-are-the-answer-to-the-citys-sports-cravings/
Not yet, with the Horth signing we at least have two fwds on the roster but yet no GK signed offically.
Love the obligatory aspiring to join MLS someday reference. Your sentiment is a bit premature. Unless you think idle speculation and wishful thinking are noteworthy.
MF Junior Sandoval signs: http://www.atlantasilverbacks.com/fc/news/item/honduran-midfielder-sandoval-joins-silverbacks
Univision had an interview with the assistant coaches yesterday (Ricardo Montoya, Alejandro Pombo and Luis Eduardo Liza) at 6:25 pm. Univision gave a little bit of their background and the coaches showed enthusiasm to be here. Univision also showed bits of the Soccer Bowl in HD (I know ESPN produced it, but I wish Univision aired the Silverbacks delayed games instead of Azteca America; last year's games had horrible picture quality).
GA Revolution FW Poku joins and Horace James leaves: http://www.atlantasilverbacks.com/fc/news/item/silverbacks-sign-ghanaian-forward-poku My daughter will be upset about Horace, she was in love with him. I liked his hustle though he had trouble finishing. I'm sure he'll land on his feet.
Yeah, I hated to hear that he was leaving. At least we'll always have the memory of that goal he scored at Edmonton last fall.
That and him sticking with the loose ball to pull a penalty against Ft. Lauderdale which kept us in the running for the Spring season trophy.
I recall (hopefully correctly) that James got behind the Minnesota defense and set up a goal the last game of the Spring Season that won us the Spring Season. I will miss him too. We shall see on Poku. The SB are now about discovering talent, and they've done a good job at it since Sir Eric has arrived. So, I am hopeful.
"The Hardins said 11 players are under contract, including Lawrenceville resident Eric Ati, who played for Grayson High. They said work is underway to add at least 10 more players to the roster in the coming weeks." http://www.gwinnettdailypost.com/news/2014/jan/23/lawrenceville-brothers-part-of-silverbacks/
Damn, I forget about his contributions at Minnesota. One think about Poku: he looks like a hoss. If he acclimates well, we could see a lot of crosses into him and Horth and a lot of aerial battles won.
Another interesting excerpt from this article: The local entrepreneurs hope that success of the Silverbacks could ultimately lead to the location of a soccer stadium in Gwinnett County. They noted that the Georgia Gwinnett College soccer team and Coolray Field provide building blocks on which to build interest in professional soccer competition in Gwinnett County. “Boris (Jerkunica) already understands the need to expand Silverbacks Park,” Henry Hardin said. “We don’t know what may be possible with economic development in Gwinnett County. But maybe in the future, we’ll be able to talk to Dr. (Daniel) Kauffman, head of the (Gwinnett County) Chamber of Commerce, about finding us a place.” “Or maybe retrofitting Coolray Field,” John Hardin added.
Klute and a few others leave Camp Cupcake early, after Brazil trip. Quote from Klinsy: “We had a great opportunity to introduce some new players into the Senior National Team Program and they have done extremely well. I think they have a bright future, and now they go back to their clubs with a better understanding of what it takes at the international level." http://m.ussoccer.com/news/mens-national-team/2014/01/140124-training-camp-roster-update.aspx
I'm going to try make it too. They are going to be playing UAB. Check the Birmingham Hammers for info.
Best of luck to @jpguzman11 and @joenascogk18 today in mls pre season— Brad Stisser (@Stiss17) January 27, 2014 Nothing official yet, mind you, but this might tell us everything we need to know about Nasco's future.
Yep. He's at the stage of his career when a move like this is now or never, and it goes without saying that he has paid his dues. With Nasco's departure imminent, I will say that I am confident in Ati starting this season.
Unless they go and find some other big signing it's definitely Ati. From poking around on Twitter it looks like Joe's trialing with Colorado. With Klute+Nasco the Rapids are going to be doing well defensively this year.
I wonder if Nasco is being seen as competition for Clint Irwin or if he's merely being seen as a backup. We'd all say he's #1 material for them, but we might be biased.
Haha true, but I think it would be a waste for him to be second string. There are plenty of MLS teams that have terrible goalkeepers that could use the help.
