We weren't that good either. We played defensive Dutch soccer. I had a bunch of Clemson and Berry kids (they were 30).. Mostly it was a sexy roi

I wonder how much Bruno is paying his 'unpaid' amateur team.

Bruno... Is he related to Boris who used to own the Silverbacks?

Ha I doubt it. How do you live in the ATL area and not know who Bruno Kalonji is? Was at GSA forever before starting his own club, KSA. Uses overage players for all his youth teams, got kicked out of Georgia Soccer a few years ago. MLS Next let him in for some reason. Great coach, but no ethics and as much of a scum bag as Boris so who knows maybe they’re distant cousins. Definitely pays a lot of his NPSL players under the table, but that’s true for tons of amateur teams.

I was teaching and coaching HS. There's a divide between school ball and youth club ball, and me being from out of state and already employed in education put me on one side. Sadly, most schools don't have that all-important immigrant population and can't muster the same sort of spirit for The Game that they do for gridiron.

There was no reason for me to know the pro clubs' owners. I did get to see the 'Backs at DMS, most notably the 2002 USOC game they took Dallas to extra time. I guess Boris still owned them then. I don't know him, either, just heard of him. I hope they've gotten rid of that concrete slab at the midfield stripe. It makes the pitch smaller than it could be.

Anyhow, that kind of info is for the folks who grew up there, not for folks who migrated there as a young adult.

Fairly big news, as US Soccer has announced they will build their training center and new HQ in Atlanta, with the financial assistance from Uncle Arthur:

Maybe now we can actually get some USMNT games in Atlanta.
