FT ATH 0-2 ARS We turned things around in 2T and were the dinstinctly better, dominant team. Madueke came out from the break with inspired dangerous playmaking. And we looked very much in the mood and likely to score but still nothing, until... Martinelli then Leo came on, and "dual-handedly" won the game for us. Mikel showing us his man-management skills tonight? And Mosquera was rock solid all night long... what a find! GREAT start to our UCL campaign. Onward!
Spirited game. Good win. I just hope it didn't take too much out of us for Sunday. Mosquera has a scary upside. Won't be a surprise if he ends up one of the best defenders in Europe in by the time he's in his early 20s. Athletic is a very tough side at home. Very tough so to win there is a great accomplishment. They had very scarce sniffs at goal. We finally have players who can come off the bench and impact a game. Didn't have that last season.
Scrappy game won by the subs. Another clean sheet. Another away win. Bring on city. We’ll have to get out of second gear to win that one, but we can do that as well. Great job to Athletic Club. They came to play, and their fans are awesome.
Figured we'd see Kepa in this one . . . but sounds like it was a good away showing against a decent opponent.
Very happy for Martinelli and Trossard. Not easy being on the bench. The goals and assists will urge them along. We should win a trophy this year. Some sort of cup or something. Obviously hope its the title but we should be in every cups semi final including CL.
First, what a fantastic environment in Bilbao. Second, that Rice, Meriono, and Zubimendi midfield was pretty dreadful, let's not do that again to start a match. Great to see Martinelli get a goal, NGL when he broke free I was dreading the thought of him not converting and the sh!t he would get.
I don't see Mikel playing Kepa in the top 2 competitions unless Raya is forced out by injury, illness, etc. Kepa will be used for League Cup almost certainly, and possibly "early" rounds of FA Cup.
So I'm not sure I'm getting this reference. Yeah, I've seen The Mandalorian and recall Herzog's bizarre line (although with him that's sort of a redundancy). But what's the context? You want to see Dowman?
Yes. It’s become a meme at this point: see this on twitter every time we’re ahead by two goals and there’s a young player on the bench.
Agree, he’s been fairly pedestrian compared to what he’s capable of. For those who have watched him play for the national team, does it apply to his international appearances recently as well?
Quality of opponent makes it hard to judge, but he scored the only actual England goal against Andorra and had 2 assists in a 5-0 romp over Serbia in Belgrade.
To be fair, Odegaard has been out and he's still learning to play with Zubimendi, who doesn't sit nearly as much as Partey did.
To some degree this appears to be tactical. Arteta appears to be using a double pivot for this early run of difficult games. I assume the change is designed to allow Rice to cover Calafiori’s forward runs. Once we get by City and Newcastle, he may have a freer role.
