Well I was totally wrong - Salah and Mane both play the whole game.

Good to see Henderson and Wijnaldum get a rest before City.

That's more like it. Total demolition.

Curtis Jones looks completely comfortable in the midfield. So poised on the ball. Jota is looking like another outstanding piece of transfer business. Allison made every save you'd expect him to and the back four did well.

Here's hoping for a similar demolition later this evening...

I only got to see pieces of the play and of course the goals on Golozzo. I wish I could have seen the game because from what I saw we look great. I'm not going to get overly excited because it also seemed like a very open game which we don't seem to get much of in the Premier League

Yeah, but if they scouted our past few matches they’d have played their reserve team.

It will be interesting to see how many goals Jota has versus Warner at the end of the year

Gomez is turning into a leader at the back it is not easy having a different defensive partner every game. A few great forward passes today as well.

    Great result yeah?
Diogol can finish...but let's not write off Bobby yet...

    Jones is the real deal...
The kid Rhys Williams did well at the back:thumbsup: - as did the "veteran" Joe Gomez...

Ali made some good saves and got lucky on the one that hit the upper V and bounced out...

Keita did fine (oikos) - nothing special, but held his own while he was in there...

It'll be interesting to see what lineup Klopp comes up with on the weekend.

There were two similar challenges which, to me, looked shoulder to shoulder - the first was when 5'10" Diogol Jota knocked their 6'3" defender off the ball and got called for a charge, the second resulted in Klopp getting a yellow card, when Jones got challenged in the box...if anything, Jones' challenge was more in the back, and Diogol's was fair...of course, both went against LFC...

Overall a great result...the game was actually better (closer) than the result shows, but LFC finished their chances...well done REDS!

On Salah's breakaway, it looked to me that the ball to him was a deliberate - fantastic - pass, not just a hoof-it-out.

Comms didn't say anything about who hit it though - looked like Jones, or maybe TAA?

    did anyone catch it?

Jota became the third Liverpool player after Michael Owen and Sadio Mané to score a hat-trick in a European away tie

    • Liverpool's 5-0 win was the biggest ever by an English club away to Italian opposition in European competition.
    • Liverpool have won each of their past four away games in the Champions League group stage, after losing four in a row before this between October 2018 and September 2019 (all under Jurgen Klopp).
    • Liverpool boss Klopp finally won away in Italy in the Champions League after losing on each of his five previous visits in the competition, courtesy of three defeats by Napoli, and one each by Juventus and Roma.
    • This was only the second time in Champions League history that Liverpool started with two teenagers, fielding Rhys Williams and Curtis Jones (Danny Guthrie and Lee Peltier played against Galatasaray in December 2006).
    • Diogo Jota is only the second player to score in his first two starts in the Champions League for Liverpool, following Robbie Keane back in 2008.
    • Since his debut for Liverpool in October 2016, Trent Alexander-Arnold has registered 36 assists in all competitions, more than any other defender for a Premier League club in that time (Andrew Robertson is next on 35).
    • Jota has hit six goals in his past four games for Liverpool in all competitions (after just one in his first six for the Reds), with only Mohamed Salah (nine) getting more goals than the Portuguese (seven) for the club this season.
    • Salah is now the joint-highest European Cup/Champions League goalscorer in Liverpool history, along with Steven Gerrard (21).

Keeping them in the groove for City, maybe.

    Jota... what a bargain.

If I were in charge I think I might honestly go with Bobby on the weekend, since he's familiar with City and doing all the dirty work... but Jota is making it very hard not to select him.

Wow that was great by the sound of it! Jota looks like we've pulled off another case of larceny in the transfer market, what a start for him. And the kids are def alright. Great outing in Italy.
