I went to Highbury tonight after first meeting Mr. & Mrs. Alex Lee from L.A. for a couple of pints in the "Moray Arms" pub, and after a short stop in the "Arsenal World of Sport" then walked down St. Thomas's Road to the ground. At the top I pointed out the "Finsbury Park Mosque" which had more than a hand in last year's events on 9.11.01. (Tomorrow they actually plan a "celebration"). About 300 yards later we reach the stadium. I cannot think of any other places of "worship" that I love and loathe so close together.
The game had a one minute silence, magnificently observed for the victims of last year. There was an American flag being waved in the front row the the lower West Stand, level with the penalty mark at the North Bank end. I'm not sure if it was any "ArsenalAmerica" members, or just brought along for the purpose. Anyway, I thought it was a good touch. Hopefully it got some coverage on your screens in the U.S.
I won't dwell on the game as I presume that most of you have seen it, but not a classic. Against better opposition, or some that know how to defend, we might have struggled more. Plenty of "stick" for Anelka and also Schmiechel, being taunted with chants of "Ian Wright" after their famous (or infamous) incident at Old Trafford some seasons ago. Well with the right result and 3 points gained, it's back to the top where we belong. (Time for bed now as up early and to the American Embassy in Grosvenor Square, London tomorrow as a guest at the service there in the morning).
Nice to win, but let's not forget the bigger picture.
Let's all remember, (and never forget) September 11th.

Yeah, it sure did, Jeff. I saw it on the tube and mentioned it in the PBP thread. Looked like a couple of younger boys, so I doubt if they were ArseAmers, but it was nice to see nonetheless.

The minutes silence was observed immaculately by all in the ground. A nice tribute.
