I don't think 10k would be that big, because you have to remember it sits 20k, and one side has no stands at all. If I had to guestimate, i would think that side sits 5k, which would make for a 20k seater wraped 4 times around a field here in Phx
Ahhh, ok ok. Well imagine slightly smaller grandstands than Phoenix Municipal, wrapped around 4 sides of a pitch
Well, that sounds a whole lot like GCU, especially with your other comments about a college stadium hosting a pro team. Whatever the place, if they are going to do some serious renovation, then that's a good sign. When the owners put up some substantial cash before they even start play, it seems like they would definitely be willing to spend more cash to make it work. Cool! And good luck to Phoenix FC. - Mark
This is just so tragic. I realize that every city has it's issues about where to put a stadium, and that there are constraints and issues to be over come, and no location is idea, and the sports market is crowded. But this is just sad. - Mark
I can't for the life of me see how GCU's stadium could possibly be outfitted to seat 6-10k, just from the physical footprint of the place. So, no, it doesn't sound (to me, at least) "a whole lot like GCU." I would be stunned ( a ) if they thought that physical space would be adequate, ( b ) they had the money to basically put 6-10k of stands (and all the other stuff you have to have besides just seats) in there and ( c ) if they could do it by next April. Stunned. Partnering with the school on a new facility that can really help their program and soccer in the Valley? I could potentially see that. I'm just having a hard time wrapping my head around the idea of putting 6-10,000 people in that area, having been there.
Oh, it isn't GCU, apparently. But what they have chosen makes some sense. I don't think it's a perfect venue, by any means (for reasons we've gone over), but it should be more workable than many of the other choices.
Kenn, signing my posts is an old habit from when we did this by e-mail and there weren't any sites like this. Sorry you don't like it. So where the hell are Phoenix FC going to play? I don't see an announcement, but you're there so maybe there has been? thanks!
What other college stadium has been talked about on this page? lol deductive reasoning at its finest. The answer is right in front of you!
Either way, you can figure it out by yourself or not, they announced at an event this weekend that they are making an announcement on tues morning, so look forward to that. The plans for the stadium look very cool, and yes, it will be ready well before april lol
Well, to be technical two colleges have been talked about in this thread. To talk in critic messages on BS is BS! : ) Say what you know or don't bother with the tease. Hopefully Tuesday they get it right. I understand reasons for delays, but they should be cautious on how/when they deliver their messages. Support starts from the fondation.
Phoenix FC secures stadium deal, sources said Odeen Domingo reports that it will be ASU's soccer stadium (if you hadn't guessed already) w/ $600k worth of improvements. This is great news for me. Less than 2.5 miles from my house. Can't use "it's too far" as an excuse not to go. It also means I will be at most all the home games, compared to a couple if it was in Peoria.
No beer at the stadium, so better drink beforehand or invest in flask (or a beerbelly if you are shameless)
I hope you are right. I don't think there was beer served when the Cardinals played at Sun Devil Stadium. I never actually went to a Cardinals game there though.
There was beer sold at every Cardinals game and a lot of it. The article on azcentral specifically says they will serv beer there.
I like the location, less then 20 minutes away, I will at least make one game a month with or without the family. I hope that $600,000 also goes towards some sort of parking facility because it is sparse around there.
