Villa need this as they're fighting for CL qualification. Vegemite can set the all-time club record for most defeats in a 38-game league season (21) if we go down at Villa Park.
For those of you who have used the injury excuse to exonerate Vegemite, Villa have had the same amount of injuries as us, but have reached the quarterfinals of the CL, the semifinals of the FA Cup, and are challenging for CL qualification. AND 12 of our 20 defeats have come when Vegemite has had his full team available.
You're conjuring villains again. Nobody - at all, anywhere - has said that our league form has been acceptable, injuries or not.
Wrong again! This from the venerable Chickasaw: Man Utd are worse because of the simple fact that we have a crippling injury list and wouldn't be where we are in the league if we had a fully fit squad every week. This from Jum: The injuries, Ange's stubbornness and decision-making have created a monster of a downward spiral. There's more if you want...
For the record, here are the teams: Spurs (4-2-3-1): Kinsky; Spence, Danso, Davies, Reguilón; Gray, Sarr; Odobert, Son, Moore; Tel Subs: Vicario, Porro, Bissouma, Cassanova, Bentancur, Olusesi, Johnson, Richarlison, Solanke Aston Villa (4-2-3-1): Martínez; Cash, Konsa, Torres, Maatsen; McGinn, Kamara; Onana, Asensio, Rogers; Watkins Subs: Olsen, Diasi, Bogarde, Digne, García, Mings, Barkley, Bailey, Malen
Vegemite now stands alone as the worst manager in club history over a 38-game season. 21 defeats, beating the previous worst of 20 in 1912-13. And the 21 defeats are the most ever in a PL season, including 42-game seasons. He is one defeat away from tying the all-time record of 22 losses established in 1934-35 (42 games).
This will be our lowest points total in a season since they went to the 3-points-for-a-win format in 1981-82.
The only reason we're not in serious, serious trouble is because the relegated teams were so, so bad. The gap between the Championship and EPL teams is huge.
You really see it in that 'goal differential' post in the other thread. The bottom three are a different level of pants. That said, one suspects that were such not the case, we'd have put a bit more effort into the last few months' league games. Performances v Frankfurt and Bodo suggest we're capable of being considerably less shite if there's a bit more impetus, which the threat of relegation would likely provide. But yeah, the old line was that you need to get to 40 points to feel anything like secure, and we'll not likely get there. 38 points from 38 games is atrocious, whatever 'injuries' or 'Europe' dynamics come in to play.
From the BBC; 'Tottenham have now lost 25 games in all competitions this season, the most in a single campaign in their history. They've have won just one of their last 11 Premier League games (D2 L8) since beating bottom side Southampton 3-1 in April. They've also conceded in each of their last 12 league games, their longest run without a clean sheet since 17 between August and December 2010.
