Locale: Estádio Municipal José Bento Pessoa Match statistics ** Sporting and Naval have never faced each other in league competition. Here is the squad called by Paulo Bento for the match: Guarda-redes - Ricardo e Tiago; Defesas - Rogério, Semedo, Polga, Tello, Tonel, Miguel Garcia e André Marques; Médios - Nani, Custódio, João Alves, Sá Pinto e João Moutinho; Avançados - Liedson, Deivid, Douala e Wender. No Beto in that list, despite him being injury-free. Hmm - perhaps saving him from a further injury because he is close to being transferred? This situation promises to be interesting...
Looks like we'll be seeing Deivid, and Liedson pair up again. Personally, I don't like to see them together against weaker teams that pack it in at the back. Let's hope we bounce back from last weeks let down. ========Ricardo========== Rogerio==Tonel==Polga==Andre ========Custodio========= Nani====Moutinho==Douala== ===Deivid===Liedson======= I'd give Douala 1 half, and if he didn't produce, bring in Varela. Just one problem he wasn't called up, but last week he wasn't on the published list either.
2-0 final I had a early afternoon party, and left the DVR recording the game, but the kids screwed up, and only got 30 minutes of the seconf half. The 30 I watched were pretty bad, eventhough we dominated. Ricardo made the save of the game while it was still 1-0. Anyone doubting Ricardo as our no 1 keeper is foolish, he's looking great on crosses, and seems more comfortable in the posts. Great for Portugal. Moutinho just looks tired out there, he needs a vacation, too many games not enough rest. The D looked ok, Tonel, and Polga are starting to combine well back there. We still need a new option for RB, MG won't do it way too clumbsy. The player we needed from Braga was Abel, not Wender. Any doubt about the PK today? BTW there could've been another PK on Douala's cross. A lot of yellows not shown, but what do you expect from a Lampiao.
thats right Ricardo played good, and has been great lately I hope he keeps it up. That save he made was a key moment. Sporting deserved this one no doubts. Forca SporTing!
Horrible game to watch...aside from some moments by Nani and Moutinho the rest of the team looked lazy and slow... The transition from defense to attack is horrible and too many missed passes in the offensive third of the field. Naval didn't give us too much of a fight...had they it could have been another bad result.
I also agree with JLR's assessment of this match. It was rather bland, with not much offensive play going on, besides some of Nani's offensive outbursts. The penalty was deserved, and I am glad to have seen someone other than 'O Levazinho' take the spot kick. I was hoping that Moutinho's first SCP goal would have been a blast from outside the box, but who cares. The team got the three points, and that is the most important thing, right?
