I will be going to an Everton coaching symposium in Houston on Sunday and Alan Irvine (first team head coach) will do a session on seasonal planning, dealing with elite players & player development. I will also be seeing a field session with the S Texas ODP players and a two hour session with Everton with a Q & A at the end. Are there any questions you would like for me to ask? (I will not be asking any questions about will Rooney sign?)
Yes, on programs during the off season lets say about 2 months on working with gaining explosive first step speed. Besides the regular plyometrics what would he suggest doing over the relatively long term in between seasons to try to gain an increase in this kind of speed? I don't believe you can get any explosive speed during short term training of just a few practices. What about using Dutch gates as hurdles mixed with sprints, then hurdles and sprints etc. to gain first step explosive speed? Gates instead of hurdles because of the less height and strain on the knees.
Why is Duncan Ferguson's fitness always comparable to that of an old man? On a more serious note, I like Ritchie's question. Also, how long do they spend warming up, and what kind of drills do they find especially effective in a warm up?
