Vacant? I don't like the sound of this advisor. It's our most stacked position - Chandler, Yedlin, Cameron, Spector, Lichaj, Parkhurst, Orozco, Ream and Evans can all play RB.

I hope Ashton has a better attitude than his advisor and doesn't come waltzing into camp like he's guaranteed to start. Unless, of course, Jurgen already promised him that.

And the task certainly won't be made any easier with way he's kept such a low profile all these years after that messy "Subway Vigilante" episode...

I don't see anything wrong with guys coming into the U.S. program thinking they can contribute, rather than thinking "hopefully I can find some minutes along with eight other dudes who may or may not actually play the position." Besides, it's not clear who the presumed first choice RB even is right now, or even what the presumed first-choice formation is.

Considering how potentially messy his process to get his passport might be, I think he'll be grateful for the chance.

Götz is pretty limited footballer from what I've seen of him at Hamburg. As a RB, he offers nothing to the team. Average defensively, not good in the air, and an absolute RUBBISH going forward. He's already 21, and if it's not for the coach Zinnbauer (who coached him at U-23) he probably wouldn't have been promoted to the first team at all. That Klinsmann really thinks about calling him up (considering the options available for him at RB) shows his preference for any American who kick a ball in Europe. Götz is playing his first season as a professional player, not even a starter at Hamburg, and haven't had any decent performance when he played. He would NEVER even be thought about for the German national team, so no need to the "we need to cap tie him" crap.

Btw, he cost Hamburg the win today. Look at what he was doing in the Gladbach goal.

That's the fear with laying out the red carpet for dual nationals. Some of them just won't be worth the time. Luckily for us so far all most all of them seem to be up the the national team level.

Despite his faults, Gotz probably currently good enough to help our Olympic team's roster. I hope Klinsmann takes it a slow with him if it's possible for him to suit up for the USMNT.

Meh, i don't take it that seriously. I mean, when was the last time an agent said his client wasn't as good as anybody already occupying his client's best position?

Ashton Gotz still lacks an American passport, but it’s looking all the more likely the Hamburg defender will be asked to train with the U.S. Men’s National Team next month.

With U.S. Soccer scout Matthias Hamann overseeing the young German-American’s progress, Gotz is expected to be called for USMNT friendlies against Denmark and Switzerland at the end of March. His passport likely won’t be in place by then, but he will get to train with the team.

According to Gotz’s agent, the U.S. Soccer Federation is working with Gotz to help him obtain an American passport.

I'm going to be looking for a retirement career soon, so Sunil, keep me on speed dial if you need to add a staffer on this topic.

sounds like JK got himself a RB for the U23 if Yedlin is not ready or is moved to midfield.

Based on the Hamburger Morgenpost article, Götz seems pretty excited about the opportunity. Couldn't hurt to take a look.

How does he compare to the rest of the player pool? I see him no higher than 4th string right back. Depth doesn't hurt though.

Well, according to the Kicker, his 2014-15 rating is better than Donovan's in 2008-09 - 4:43 vs. 4:75. So, the kid is clearly going to be a legend.

Probably not higher than 4th, but he is of Olympic age and you never know when someone is going to fall out of form. I think I've heard he can play on the left too

They went 1-0 down after 10' against Frankfurt. Rash challenge by ex-Arsenal CB Djourou gave away the pen.

The ball into the middle came from the RB's position, so Goetz may be back next game.

More like crap - period. (at the Bundesliga level, naturally ... compared to me in my, ahem, prime, he'd be in another world)

Notice - this was the A-team, getting a run-out for a new coach during a FIFA break ... which will break some and make others.
