Ashes to Ashes (2008), the spin-off series to the excellent Life on Mars, just aired its first episode on BBC1 in the UK. The new (wo)man in town is Keeley Hawkes. Will the Guv' be able to handle her? I was underwhelmed. Sure, there was some cool music, some horrific 80's clothing, flashy cars and some cracking one-liners. I wasn't expecting much to be honest, but for me this didn't do it. I'll keep an open mind, though. It can get better. Reactions?
I was a big fan of LoM so I'm looking forward to this. Unfortunately I've got to download it so I won't get to watch it until this weekend at the earliest. Is DCI Hunt still the same bastard (in a good way) he was on LoM?
You'll see and judge for yourself but I think we may see a softened Hunt this time around. He is still bossing everyone around and a lot of fun to watch. If the new girl rises up to the challenge, then we may see a great interplay between the two of them.
i watched it last night and had pretty much the same feelings as you elbp. only the first episode though so it has time to improve. on a more heartening note i just watched phillip glenister (hunt) on jonathan ross tonight and even he said it's going to take a couple of episodes for it to get going ... fingers crossed.
There was a fairly large element of humour in the first episode but, to be fair, LoM was pretty funny sometimes as well. 'Fire up the Quattro'... Love it!
I finally got around to watching it last night. It wasn't bad. I got a kick of how they explained Tyler's disappearance, leaving the possibility of a come back. I'll definitely give it another shot.
I think there's always a problem following a good, original idea with a follow-up series. I remember watching the original film 'Highlander' back in the.... er... 80's, I think, and it was brilliant. Unfortunately they then d#followed it up with another, then another, then a crappy series which was totally half-baked. 'There can only be one'... oh, well, apart from that one... oh! and that one over there... and there's always that one... and we can't forget about this one here, can we! Totally bloody ludicrous. Hopefully the quality of the writing will save the day. There were touches of humour, like I said, but I think they'll be kept within the bounds of reason as in the last series. Our American cousins may not have laughed as heartily as we did at the following but, I have to say, I pissed myself laughing. "Is he kicking in a nonce?" Great stuff.
