That is awful  I have seen some of these new fields, but it is never the same. There may be benefits for lower leagues, but The Grove should remain natural grass.

(John MacEnroe voice) You CANNOT be serious!!! (/John MacEnroe voice)

The field at Highbury is nearly always in impeccable condition, why would it be any different at Emirates?

The Chicago Fire played two seasons on the stuff in Naperville- the quality of the turf and the surface it was laid on was crappy- but I can't imagine a top level team playing on the stuff, even if it was done right...

If it's not Blatter it's Johansson. Someone should tell him to go and perform a sexual act with himself.

I read this after reading the "Tony Adams interview" on football365 and it took me a minute to figure out they were not kidding. Actually, I'm still not sure. Its ridiculous! How hard is it too grow grass in England? I was over there for 10 days last year and I had grass growing on me! (I think it was actually moss but it went away after application of a topical cream)

TMI antifan! You didn't need the creams because you were hitting the brothels with Rooney did you ;)

Agreed though, the idea of artificial turf at Ashburton is crazy. AW would probably resign before letting his team play on the stuff.

I think it would be horrible to do, but I have seen some of the latest fake stuff and you can hardly tell that it's not real. They've come a long way with it. I don't know about how it is in rain and since it rains so much in England, I think they should test it out in a different league. Maybe the J League or MLS at one of the new stadiums. Going straight to the EPL would be stupid. If they do, I hope they will keep the option open to put in regular turf if it doesn't suit them.

I think it will be good if they are worried about the field being water logged to the point with puddles all over the field but the ball will take off a lot faster and be a disaster.

I bet this will be a 3 year disaster and then everyone will go back to grass.

think uefa might demand that manure install an artificial pitch at old trafford. can't wait to see that pasture come mid december and january. how many times have they relaid their pitch in the middle of a season?

honestly with the type of pitches they are talking about, you wouldn't notice any difference in the play. i believe that the pitch in seattle that chelsea and celtic played on was one of the new artificial ones.

Because The Arsenal Stadium has open corners, Emirates Stadium does not. Makes all the difference. Honest!

Seems to me from reading that article that we have the opion of saying "mmmm kay, thanks but no thanks, bye now" ?

The new Field-Turf surfaces in the NFL are a major improvement over past artificial surfaces. They look better and they're less likely to cause injury. Baltimore and the New York teams recently switched over to Field-Turf from natural grass because maintaing the grass fields was becoming too much of a headache.

That said, I don't like what the Field-Turf surface does to a soccer game. The ball still skips across the surface too quickly and really makes for an unpleasant game to watch. I hope Arsenal never seriously considers going to an artificial surface.

One thing I will say about turf that might make it nice for us is that it is incredibly fast. I played on it in college and we had a field dauy with our opponents (we had several guys off the Nigerian national team, but a different story).

Personally though, I would never want to see turf in the EPL.

Also, for some of you who have seen the latest and greatest turf, does it still cut you up as bad as the old stuff did? You used to get all kinds of burns and abrasions since soccer players don't carry as much covering as players in some other sports do. Just curious as I haven't been on the synthetic stuff in about 5 years.

My last question is because I'm a little confused... Whats Ashburton Grove?

Rick added that line at the end--trying to get me going, but I have no doubt the court will be convened!!

The trip to SD was great. I interviewed in Rancho Bernanrdo while I was there and it seemed to go pretty well. I may be seeing you at the Shakespeare soon!
