When: Saturday 5 March 6:00 pm EST Who: DC United at Football Club Cincinnati Where: TQL Stadium Forecast: Partly sunny 67°F How, if not on the road for some soccer & chili (or is it "chili?"): NBC Sports Washington Plus, TeleXitos, or the team website locally It's the home opener for Cincy, so that means orange rally towels for all fans! It also means team Lucho will try to improve on their -5 GD from the first week. Meanwhile DCU will seek to score its first non-pk, non-deflected goal of the season. I'll go with 4-2 good guys in an exciting game that is tough for fans of good defense to watch.
Rep for WKRP reference. Cincinnati has "Skyline Chili", a chili variant invented by a Greek restauranteur in the 30s. I love it.
I finally read up on Cincy "chili" and it was explained more as a Macedonian bolognese sauce. In the past, I've cooked up a Greek variant with tomatoes and cinnamon, but never heard it called "chili". I've also whipped up a Somali version of bolognese which uses xawash spice and cilantro which is quite tasty. But in all cases, these are really pasta sauces and not what most folks would consider "chili." As for pasta and tomato sauce generally, I've just finished reading "A Short History of Spaghetti with Tomato Sauce" by Massimo Montanari which engages in cultural anthropology to show how the use of pasta in Italy evolved and when tomatoes first were matched up with pasta. Fascinating. Oh right, this is a soccer forum. So, I'll go 3-1 good guys, Djeffal muscles up Lucho so badly Lucho gets tossed. Last week Austin scored 5 goals on 5 shots on goal against Cincy. I think their defense is a bit suspect.
I spent a three-day weekend in Dayton, OH back in 2019. Ate at Skyline Chili and I'll tell you what--that shit hits the spot when you're liquored up and need to put something in your gut, pronto.
I heard that Lucho, who captains the worst performing team for the dollar spent in MLS, apologized to the fans for the last game and promised the team will play better. I wish we were firing on all cylinders and I could go for a 3-0 win, but Imma gunna say 2-2.
who runs barter-town? hopefully not Lucho. Anyway, depending on who is eating its frequently 3 ways in. But whenever eating in Ohio one can count it a success if its a one-way trip in and out. (I better stop, this is going nowhere quickly).
more frustration & disappointment, although less than last week 2-1 for the good guys - our press needs continued pressure from our forwards, otherwise they break it and we're in trouble, and with Estrada that's our weakness - but we still score enough to win
Kamara not starting and Robertha didn't travel, even though neither were on the injury report. At the end of 2021, Losada was listing as "out" players who ended up starting, and vice versa. He seems to like to play loose with these reports.
A) Kamara is in uniform, so that aspect is a big "meh" from me. B) Who knows if Robertha's hamstring wasn't feeling right on Friday. Methinks you're looking for something that's not there with this one.
Gressel is going to be subbed at the half. I'm watching on Hulu and have the homers commentary. Any more info on the injury from Dave Johnson?
