I think the exagerration about hispanic players drastically affecting attendance shows the slight lean towards dissing MLS rather than actually focusing on Mexican football in the US throughout the article.

Good for the promoters of these matches, and also good for the fans. The MLS comments didn't need to be part of the article IMO.

    Any thought folks?

Mendoza is the name of the author of that article, so you can imagine there would be a bias in that.
A very interesting article, I hadnt realized these events were having so much success before I read this. Hopefully MLS is able to capitailize on it and improve the marketability of MLS to Latinos somehow. It doesnt seem like the league can do without them.

But it's not just big cities like Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, or Houston that are bringing in the FMF teams. A city like McAllen, Texas are also cashing in:

"Eres Tigre o Puma? -- Mexican soccer teams set to play in McAllen
    March 17,2004

    The Monitor

McALLEN — It’s official — Rio Grande Valley residents can decide whether they want to cheer Tigres or Pumas.

On April 14, two of the highest ranked Mexican soccer teams — Tigres from Monterrey and Pumas from Mexico City — will play an exhibition game at McAllen Veterans Memorial Stadium.

The "friendly" showdown will start at 8 p.m., said Francisco Javier Cruz, a former Tigre and now the event’s promoter with Showtime Promotions in Monterrey. Tickets are expected to go on sale Saturday at five United Drive-In convenience stores in the Valley and in Reynosa. The price will be announced later this week, he said. [...]There are plans to possibly add additional seating to the nearly 14,000 existing seats at the stadium on Bicentennial Boulevard, Rodriguez said."

"let alone the 50 other professional Mexican soccer games scheduled north of the border this year. "

50????? this is getting out of hand! What I don't understand is how come MLS teams don't get a piece of this? MFL teams like to come here to play so why not play against MLS teams? MFL/MLS friendlies have done well so I don't understand why MLS doesn't try to get more games against them.
