    From Uefa.com:
    http://www.uefa.com/magazine/news/Kind=64/newsId=63985.html

Nice little article about the city, teams, and stadia there.

The part I did not like:
"With a capacity of 24,000, half of it seated, the Letzigrund is ideal for modest Swiss league purposes."

I am not too sure how modest the league is becoming. With 4 new stadia, and a rebirth of Swiss Football, things are looking good. Now if the financial situiation could be resolved...

Another interesting thing that I did not know:
"After two early title wins, FCZ enjoyed a period of success in the 1960s, which saw Ladislav Kubala and Kobi Kuhn help the blue-and-whites to three championships and European appearances."

I did not know that Khun played for FCZ. He must have been a pain to opposing players.

Cool article I need to check that site more often. I have a buddy who works in Zurich for Fifa.

Do they need any help? I would love a job like that.

I have only been to Zurich twice to their airport, and it was strange. That airport is silent. That was the wierdest thing in the world.

If he did need help, he'd ask me first :D

I just fired off an email to him. He's working on the U20 WC in the UAE. Should be exciting now.

Zurich Unique Airport is getting a big overhaul right now (badly needed in my opinion.) I think construction will be completed in 2004.

Great article btw. I loved the aerial shot of my beloved Hardturm.

Three questions, how close is FC Zurich's stadium away? In the background of the picture, is that the practice fields for GCZ? Where is the new stadium being built?

    Rob,
-Only 1 KM separates Letzipark (FCZ Stadium) from the Hardturm (GCZ) but the many rail lines and industrial facilities between them makes the trip more like 4 KM.

-Yes, those are the practice fields you see on the right. The tram from the main train station takes you right to the stadium gates on the left side of the photo. Across the street on the lefthand side of the photo, there is also a pub/restaurant with a nice terrace for pre/postgame festivities.

-Sadly, the new FIFA stadium is scheduled to be built on the same site so they will soon be putting the wrecking ball to the Hardturm. GC and FCZ will both play at the Letzigrund until the FIFA park is completed circa 2006.

I like both the Hardturm and Letzipark as good examples for SSS in the USA. They hold about the right numbers 30,000/24,000, offer good views of the field, and appear relatively affordable to build.

Chris pretty much said it all. Construction on the new stadium will start pretty soon after a necessary public vote on September 7th.

Btw, it's Letzigrund (FCZ stadium). The Letzipark is the shopping center.

That game has been sold out for weeks...still working side angles but may end up watching on the big screen instead. :(

At least there are plenty of tix left for the GC match on the 27th.

That's too bad. How about a road trip to the Stade de Geneve next week?
