MIKEL Arteta scooped Everton's Player of the Season award for the second year running – and repeated his pledge to commit his future to the Blues.

Arteta took the top honour again at Everton's annual awards at St George's Hall after another outstanding season.

More than 500 guests attended the black-tie event, along with manager David Moyes, his entire first-team squad and a host of heroes from the club's past.

Although the 25-year-old classy Spaniard – who has netted nine goals for the Blues so far this term making him the club's second highest scorer – still has two years remaining on his present Goodison deal, negotiations will begin later this month over an improved contract. <more >

Award winner Arteta eager for progress on Blues deal

MIKEL ARTETA today urged Everton to wrap up his future when he declared that he wants the uncertainty surrounding his new contract to end.

The Spanish midfielder was named the Blues Player of the Year for the second season in succession at a glittering awards ceremony at the St George’s Hall last night.

And Arteta – who has been consistently linked with a move to Real Zaragoza despite making clear intentions to stay on Merseyside – has admitted he would love to spend the best years of his career wearing Royal Blue. <

Awesome! I've been worrying a lot about the prospect of him and Cahill leaving in the close season. It's great news he is staying. Let's just hope Cahill does the same!

Moyes and the board should throw the wallet down and get this done. Don't screw it up, guys; give him a big raise and sign him up.

Give him whatever he wants. He's worth every penny.
