It's pretty amazing: just a week after Arsenal's streak gets snapped on the road against a rival, so does the Patriots' streak. Mind you, I sure as hell enjoyed this one a lot more, plus the refs had nothing to do with the outcome of this game (unlike Arsenal last week, the Pats were clearly outplayed thanks to Mr.'s Roethlisberger, Staley, Burress and Porter) and, as far as I know, there was no postgame food festival. I know that we've had this discussion before, but, now that both streaks have ended, whose was more impressive? I'm still thinking Arsenal, just because they managed to go a whole season unbeaten. Sure, they had 12 draws, but to dodge a loss for that long is truly incredible. The Pats' streak was very impressive also, but, while Arsenal had to play everyone twice, the Pats only saw a few teams a second time, and dodged several teams altogether. The fact that Arsenal continued their streak with a style that is truly amazing to watch only adds to the legacy of the streak.
You also have to take into account the much greater parity in the NFL. I'd still go with Arsenal though.
Hard enough to compare different eras of the same sport. Really hard to compare different sports. I'd go with the Pats, though, if forced to choose. The parity in the NFL has been mentioned, but don't forget the weighted schedule in which the best teams play harder schedules. Also, since there are fewer games played per season, each one means much more than any single game in any other sport. The pressure for each game is much greater. In the end, doesn't really matter, though. Both streaks were inspirational to witness and it'll be a while before we see their likes again. But then again, since hell has frozen over (the Red Sox and their win and all) maybe we'll see something really miraculous.
In the NFL there are fewer games so they are more important, but at the same time there were more games for Arsenal to come out and have an off day and loose also. So I think there are two sides to that one particular point.
Don't forget the Patriots' streak includes the playoffs while Arsenal lost some games in various tournaments (CL, FA Cup), and there is a lot more parity in the NFL than the EPL. I'd go with the Pats.
The quality of the Patriot's roster is pure crap compared to Arsenal's. There is no marquee player; Brady gets sold as one because of the importance of his position but in terms of quaterback ability he's solidly middle-of-the-pack. Corey Dillon has only been around for less than 1/4 of the streak and he's the type of malcontent that would make the Anelka brothers sit up and take notice. We threw out our defensive captain because we brought in another major malcontent with one of the league's worst disciplinary records. None of our wideouts would be a solid #2 on any team with a winning record, our o-line is complete patchwork, most of our linebackers are drastically undersized and playing out of position and our star d-back can't outrun a couple of fata$$ Miami cops, probably because he was on too much e. Our d-line is better than average but very young, except big willie who's been on the team for about a decade. This board's mantra is "Arsene Knows," but if Bill Belichek had 1/3 of the talent on his squad that Arsene gets to work with the Pats could easily match the streak of 49. Arsenal has world-class players, the Pats have a bunch of hard-working also-rans and a great attitude. Don't get me wrong, I love Arsenal and I think the streak was wonderful but when a Ferrari wins a race it's nothing special, when a kia wins it's news.
I think the biggest asset is everyone working as a team. After problems at Man U last season helped the players work towards more of a team effort. In today's world it's hard to get guys to work as team, instead or worrying about what's 'best' for them and their career.
