I wonder if a draw in that match is our preferred result, as both teams are kinda close to us. Is that what you were saying?
I mean, Wenger was a g. And Arsenal fans were convinced he was ‘the problem’. If only we’d had a better striker.
Saka is phenomenal but we needed a creative midfielder in the team. We sucked before the introduction of ESR. Now we have the luxury of both ESR and Odengaard. odengaard reminds me a lot of Ozil but younger and better work rate. Has a really nice touch
y'know, i was not thrilled when jose started playing bale because that makes their front 3 scary. i am just grateful he still won't play dele alli and insists on parking the bus.
The funny thing is that lately Jose had been parking the bus less, and getting better results for doing that... I think. So one of the various bits of fortune that went our way today is that he decided to revert to that old bunker/counter mentality, and they couldn't really pull it off... we scored twice and they didn't.
jeebus. Only West Ham (18) have hit the woodwork more often than Arsenal (16) this season.— Orbinho (@Orbinho) March 14, 2021
That's not the law. Just because someone mis-hits the ball doesn't mean you can clatter through them.
100%. But many referees don’t seem to know that. How many times have we seen obvious fouls let go after a shot was taken? If Oliver didn’t give this on the pitch, var wouldn’t have intervened.
You make a good point. I actually wasn't even thinking that. My point was that a draw seems more likely than an out and out win for Wolves.
The problem with Giroud is he was never quite elite. Had we actually signed an elite striker back then, I think he would have been a perfect part of the rotation. Presumably that was kind of the idea with Alexis, but then his game didn't fit very well with Giroud
Yes - though I remember often players would push the ball way past the goal keeper, then trip over the keeper and get a penalty, even though they probably never could have recovered the ball Robben used to do that
I mean, it's not really a "problem" per se, we just made it a problem because we failed to build the squad that needed to be built. The irony is that Giroud was exactly the type of striker we needed/wanted for years, and when we finally had him, we didn't have the elite striker in the squad anymore. If Giroud was part of the Invincibles, he would be rightfully celebrated as one of the great role players in our club's history.
i think Alexis was supposed to be that guy - but then we had no tactical coherence - though Ozil, Giroud, Alexis did produce a decent amount of goals
I thought we looked good in the first half We made constant inroads on the left wing leading to multiple chance including two off the woodwork PPG is significantly up since the new year - this is a different team now. Shame we did so badly in the first half of the season
And it's a blatantly incorrect interpretation of the LOTG when that happens. Look at it this way: suppose the ball isn't even there. Suppose Lacazette is just waiting for a cross. If he's in the box and Sanchez recklessly just runs him over before the ball is played, has he not been fouled in the box?
And I think in those instances, the refs aren't really sure the keeper contact is a foul so they use "he wouldn't have gotten it anyway" excuse to not make a tough call. It's still wrong though. The logic of this excuse is ridiculous. If Lacazette got smashed like that at midfield of course, everyone would agree it was a foul (well maybe not if Kane was the perpetrator) but because it's in the box after a poor touch, now it's in question as to whether it's a foul?? That's dumb.
Agreed. It is a huge inconsistency that generally it's regarded as smart play to fish for a foul in the outfield, but if you get one Robben style in the box it's somehow cheating
