Red Bulls in a 4-1-4-1 Henry by himself up front Marquez playing as a forward sweeper * Red Bulls offense looks to be Henry on solo runs, springing Richards Arsenal has their big, big guns playing: Van Persie, Wilshire, new boy Gervinho (?), and an entire host of stars This game is going to be played almost entirely in Red Bulls half. This could get ugly. Interestingly, Red Bulls *only* need a tie (not a win) to win the tournament. Strategy has to be to go 0-0 into the break, and bring on some fresh legs (Agudelo? Limpere?) and hope to catch a goal on the break. I have to go with 5-0 for Arsenal. I think this is going to be very tough assignment. Arsenal under heavy, heavy pressure after this summer and yesterday's tie. Plus, they are simply too good. Losing or evening tying Red Bulls would be a scandal, quite frankly, this close to the season. I just don't think the Red Bull tired legs can hold up over 90 minutes. Hoping for a tie, however.
I don't understand RBNY traveling over there during the season. Nor do I understand the uniforms or this friendly getting its own thread. It sure is quiet over there.
Respectable start by Red Bulls in first 11 minutes. Of course, lots of time on clock still. Getting into halftime 0-0 would be outstanding. Henry comes close with a shot, but never really had a chance.
The only pertinent question about this game I have is, what's up with the yellow shorts on the Red Bulls?
Last 5 minutes not so good for Red Bulls. No possession, and Arsenal camped in their end. A couple bad turnovers by defenders, and Rost playing solid. If Red Bulls can just weather the storm, crowd could get restless towards halftime, starting turning on Arsenal and the psychology could change. As it were, Red Bulls need at least 30 minutes of resolute defense to get to that point.
Disparaging remark by one of the commentators about Henry been past his prime and that's why he plays in " the MLS ".
Henry with decent effort, but too far in the center- parried away. Good 25 minutes overall by the good guys.
The way Arsenal pu$$es out on offense, they should be the last to criticize Henry. As I speak, Ramsey blazes over with an open goal.
Hmmm, if that was an MLS player that missed it they would say "that is why he is in MLS. A premiership player would bury that."
Terrible decision by Gervinho to go down there. I can understand if you're not getting to the ball..in a competitive match. But he was 1v1 with the keeper, in a FRIENDLY. Good lord.
Arsenal is playing their typical game of possession, but not clinical in the box. Slight odds increasing for Red Bulls. If they can get to 60' tied, and bring on fresh legs in Agudelo and Limpere, they've got a shot from there. Red Bulls do need to avoid the bonehead errors by defenders dribbling out of the back. That might kill them.
Really ugly football so far by NY. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt vs. the English version of Barcelona, but all of these long balls to no one are pretty poor.
Is this a new score bug for FSC? Is it just for this match? Is the blank area where sponsors normally would go? Is it too much to ask that they include "B" to make it "NYRB?" When are they rebranding as Fox Soccer? So many questions... Cosmos talk. Cahsmas!?
"I always thought Americans couldn't handle draws in their sports, but look at Red Bulls and they've drawn over half their games." Lol.
34'- this is MAJOR victory so far for the Bulls. Get into halftime tied, boys. This is a Cup final. I don't care if it is pre-season tourney. The fact that Arsenal is showing so little 'oomph' speaks volumes to the problems that side has. As I type this, I hope I don't jinx the Bulls. They've done great this game. Oh God, more Cosmos talk. More hype and more emptiness you will only find with Lindsay Lohan.
