    It wasn't the Russians.

    We actually did.

Saka's plenty live a body on the left, along with Tierney. It's the right side where we're anemic. I wonder if Gabi can play on right? Don't recall. But Pepe/Willian have absolutely sucked.

I was making reference to the other body. There are many options for play if we just dropped the dead wood players even if it affects balance.

41' and a great save by Runarsson when Jesus was in 1-on-1 with him. Well done for a guy who gets some stick.

    ********ing Zak Steffan.

Barely got any of the ball and put studs through the side of Martinelli's shin.

Martinelli now down in pain, as Steffen comes out strongly and kicks Gabi's shin/ankle REALLY hard. It does NOT look good. FVCK!

Looks like he caught him with his studs and knocked his shin guard to the back of his leg. Something is not good, and he'll probably be coming off. So sad. He was our shining light.

Wait a minute! He's coming back on. Maybe it's just a seriously painful knock/bruise. COME ON GABI!!!

The fact there is no VAR in the League Cup is a joke.

That's a foul and a red card for the keeper there.

Agree that VAR should be used. But not sure about that being a red, or even a foul.

Steffen took the ball cleanly at speed and then his follow-through caught Gabi's leg.

    That's 100% excessive force there.

Yeah but it wasn't like a studs-up tackle. It was his kicking foot, and when he came through the ball, his studs were exposed on the follow-through.

Do you think if our keeper had done that you would think he should be ejected?

I dunno. But i've seen players get yellow for an opponent kicking up into their studs hundreds of times,

If our keeper did that they'd be off.

But after the player makes clean contact with the ball like Zach did?

I wish I could watch the reply again (I only saw it one time) but since this is streaming (not on TV/DVR) it's much harder to back up and find that replay so I'm just going from my memory of that one replay I saw.

Anyway we just kicked off for 2T.

    COYG!!!!!

You can win the ball and still be worthy of receiving a red card. I think the challenge was out of control, high, with studs showing.

48' Martinelli gave it a go, but obviously that injury was worse than thought. So on comes Pepe. If only Nicolas can have as positive an impact (or more) as Gabi had... I'n not gonna hold my breath on that one.

The good news is that coming off, he was walking fine. He's probably getting a nice sized knot down there, which hurts to run with.

Keeper is running at full tilt, the ball is pretty high up when he reaches it. How else is he supposed to kick the ball?

And again it's not a tackle, it's not like he has a choice of how high to go in.

Let's take a rest until we can see the replay again.

Ugh, Runarsson lets a Mahrez FK go right through his hands.

I now have to agree that this guy is just not very good. :(
