It's gonna take one crazy big yeoman's effort to keep them from scoring a 2nd

Arteta uses his last sub. Auba off for AMN. Good move probably.

Love it! We pressed them high to get the ball back in their half and use up a minute or so. :D

    Just 4 mins left!

    FT 1-1.

    Great 1st half. Bad 2nd.

Fair result and we all live to fight another day.

Should've put this match away in the first half. What a massive shame.

Tough to complain given the circumstances, and can't assume Arteta to be a miracle worker. Not a loss, though, so the team continues to fight and get points.

Again, if they had only held out against Brighton.

Right then, on to the big one.

I think we outplayed Leicester when the match was 11 v 11 so that was good. There aren't really any good plans for having one of your subs get sent of within twenty seconds of being on but Arteta seemed like he basically was at a loss from that point on

he was one of a number of them when arteta came on. if i recall correctly, when arteta started, ljungberg became the eye-in-the-sky instead of one of the on-pitch staff.

Yup I remember that now. He was literally kicked upstairs. I took that as a bit of a slight by Arteta or whomever made that call.

Funny how it always seems we get fcuked over on var

it looked like Perez touched the ball and Eddie was watching the ball the whole time and tried to pull out

    another shite ref

we should’ve scored a second through laca multiple times but he’s wasteful

Not to mention that Vardy's kick to Mustafi's face should have been a straight red. Go back and watch replay. He looked back at Mustafi and then swung his leg around with intent. That was not a natural motion of falling it was a dirty play.

    1) leicester goal: okay, thank you. i'm glad i'm not the only one who thought that. i was watching highlights and they kept replaying it from the two angles. from one, i thought it looked CLEAR that the path of the ball changed, signifying that perez clearly had a touch.

    2) nketiah's red: was anybody able to get a better view? did he make contact stud-to-knee? from one angle, i thought it looked clear that he did. but from the other, i thought he pulled out and put his foot down before clattering into the defender.

also, i didn't realise contact/tackle is now a VAR decision? is that new or new to the restart?

i didn't see how he was the rest of the game but, in the highlight, immediately after vardy got the goal, mustafi threw his hands up looking for someone to blame. gawds, do i hate that. i used to defend him because, to me, i THINK he can be useful if he has another centreback to tell him what to do but, man, do i hate shit like that. szczesny used to do that on every single goal and it irked me then. it's funny that it was literally the very thing arteta's no 2 pointed out as part of the culture that needed changing at the club before the shutdown.

i can't wait for him to be gone this offseason.

Hmm. That first replay shows apparent intent and thus a red card. However the second replay, which is what I saw at the time, makes it look like it could be more accidental. I don't recall them stopping play to give VAR a chance to review this, did they? If VAR looked at the 1st replay angle then I agree they should've either ruled it a red card, or at least sent the HR over to the pitchside monitor like was done for Nketiah's.

In Arteta's post-match interview he complained that Leicester should've been down to 10 men, but that was for a foul at 42' (which he actually seemed to not have seen himself but was told about by his team I guess) in which Evans fouled Laca with a nasty stud-raking down his achilles. But for me the Vardy one, assuming intent, is the one that in hindsight was more warranted.

Oh well, you win some you lose some. I'm not a big fan of everyone's-got-it-out-to-screw-Arsenal. Never have bought into those conspiracies.

    Onward to the toilet!!

I think potential red-card decisions have always been VAR's purview

Every season the same discussion about Arse getting screwed on cards and pens

Meanwhile Man Utd get their customary 12 penalties per season

I've been complaining about this stuff for 14 years now. Despite usually being at least the 4th best team in the league, Arse seldom get more than 6 pens per season, and little +ve differential

Are we sure Mustafi is gone? Has anyone else played more minutes since the restart? I think he only missed one half when he was subbed off for Holding.

If you go by Arteta's team selections since the restart, his CB preference seems to be:
    1a. Mustafi
    1b. Mari
    3. Luiz
    (If a back 3) 4. Kolasinac
    (If a back 2) 4. Holding
    ...
    6. Sokratis

He may not be. I've seen a few reports claiming that we may be offering an extension due to his improved play under Arteta. Have a feeling that we may roll with what we have on defense next season because A) we have seen an improvement in our GA since the break and B) I'm guessing that the prices we are getting and/or payment terms (up front vs installments) are not to our liking for the CBs we like.

I'm pretty sure Vardy was behind the ball at the point Perez touched it (which I agree he did), making it a moot point.
