FT ARS 0-0 EVE Dyche parked his bus very effectively. Relied on his keeper, who had a very fine day. Can't say we didn't try. Massively dominated all the stats. Just couldn't break them down. Needed different tactics I guess. Not to mention our most recent bugaboo: lack of clinicality. And missed a golden opportunity to close the gap to the league leaders. Super frustrating but... we move on.
question..... on that last corner, Doucoure stood in front of Raya and put his arms in the air to block an outlet pass. If Raya throws the ball and hits his arm does he (Doucoure) get a card for intentionally using his hands?
As if if we don't score off it, that's it, nothing else happens because Arteta either sets up or instructs this team to have absolutely zero attacking flair. If we don't win a trophy this year I would be putting Arteta on notice. Lots of money spent on defenders but it was obvious before the season started that we lacked a CF and a proper L8 and instead we brought in Calafiori, Sterling who Chelsea don't want, and Merino who is showing absolutely zero. We have regressed badly this season, we can't score and we play boring, insipid football. Replace Edu with someone who will push back on Mikels need for a million defenders.
We scored 91 goals last season and scored 3 in the Champions League this week. Quit being so reactionary.
1. We aren't the team we were last season, that is painfully obvious by how defensive we now are and reliant on goals from corners. 2. We beat a distinctly average team. We have 2 more in the CL. It's once we get to the round of 16 I worry because we won't have the poor teams to cushion out GD. Meanwhile 10men pool scored twice on a Fulham team we struggled to get one against, and Man U put 4 past this Everton team who have been garbage all season. Meanwhile we are likely to be 4th by end of this matchday. Spending that much money to struggle against a relegation candidate at home and offer up 1 or 2 quality chances from open play is a big issue.
Know he is out for 12 weeks with a hammy, but would rather have seen Reiss at LW today than Martinelli/Trossard/Sterling
Yup. Even if you did do your best to jinx that by posting it so early. Just finished 2-2 at Anfield. Opportunity lost.
You're a little emotional. But you make some decent points. Personally I'm not giving up yet. More than half of the season yet to go. Lots can happen.
We played like we had no idea Everton were going to park the bus. The only way to beat a low to mid block is direct quick ball movement usually centrally and we spent a lot of the game passing sideways, or slowly. Martinellis numbers against Young were embarrassing and honestly I'd be playing Sterling or Trossard instead. Has been so bad all season and I don't understand the logic, the form just isn't there for him. We are going to be behind two teams with new coaches, and likely equal with a City team with 1 in 10 who are in a crisis. This seasons drop off is horrendous.
No emotion here, just realistic from early in the season. The only thing available to us is cups, Pool aren't dropping enough points and even if they do we are behind Chelsea in the pecking order now. Would take some serious investment in January to rectify problems we have and the players won't be available til the summer. And I don't like our chances at the pointy end of the CL. It's basically going to come down to FA Cup or bust.
Really question some selection decisions, Partey best form this season has come from midfield and instead of subbing MLS for Tierney and keeping Timber on the right and bringing in Partey for Rice, we bring Partey in at RB and he inverts but still sits deep. Not sure how we line up next game but a proper shake up is needed because this team is in horrendous form.
With all due respect, the stats about this game tell the biggest lie in the world. That game was utter dross.
