According to the fox sports soccer website Arsenal have overtaken Real Madrid as the top club team in the world. Now we all know how most people on Big Soccer feel about the diffrent ranking methods of FIFA and other places that rate teams, so here is your chance who do you feel is the number one team in the world not just confined to the EPL but anyplace. I feel like Arsenal and Madrid both are deserving canadiates for the title, and I hope we will get to see them square off in the CL for the overall bragging rights. Now your views maybe a little diffrent than mine so let us know who you think. But please lets try to keep it realistic(example The Colorado Rapids are not real contenders for this title so lets leave the obvious teams we all know are not "great" out of this for the sake of not having arguments with no point)
I have only seen Real Madrid play once live this season, in the Super Cup final. Now while that's not really too competitive, I thought they were absolutely outstanding that night, a great team. At the moment my team, Arsenal are on a great run, playing wonderful football, scoring lots of goals. We are easily playing the best football in England and have made a good start to our Champions League campaign. As both sides are currently unbeaten, it's hard to separate them at this time. It will be a great match if the two meet and are playing at their current level when they do. ESPN's first rankings of the season should be out soon according to their website, it will be interesting to see what they come up with.
No. It's over the top. They've played some fabulous football so far this season but it's much too early to start talking about World # 1. Let's see if they keep it up. Let's see how they do against the best in Europe.
I agree with macho, they've won nowt yet, so let's not get to carried away. They've also had a mediocre European record in recent years, something you can't say about Real Madrid.
It is true that Arsenal are playing the best football in the Premiership and they've also made a good start in Europe... I don't believe that they'll go the whole season unbeaten though, every team (it doesn't matter how good they are) will go through a bad spell at some stage... Man United have not once all season (and I've seen all their games) looked like they could go an a run like Arsenal... But that doesn't mean it won't happen... United have not played well all season while Arsenal are looking like they can score every time they go on the pitch (they've already beat the record for most consecutive games in which they've scored)... Arsenal are playing great football at the moment but I still believe that United will win the league...... The reason I say that is partly because I'm a fan and my heart's talking louder than my head but I also think that United will hit form whereas Arsenal will have a bad run... Come on you reds!!!!!....... Arsenal are the team to beat..... Therefore all we need to do is beat them..........
Arsenal are the best team in the Premiereship. That's about all you can say at the moment. Best team in the world? Not until they prove it, which they clearly haven't. Real Madrid, as reigning Champions League and Supercup champions have the only claim to #1.
OK, then that means Madrid can't be #1 either.... I don't really think it's too early to start talking about who the best team is. Arse is playing amazingly well, but it's tough to say they're better than Madrid for at least a couple of reasons. First, the Spanish league remains just slightly ahead of the Premiership in the FIFA coefficients-- so if Madrid is the best team in Spain, I'd have to say it edges Arsenal slightly in that department (Real Madrid is, however, not currently the top team, but does have a game in hand). Second, I think Madrid's wins in the CHampions League are slightly better than Arsenal's. I'd pick Madrid by a hair. But isn't it hard to pick against Arsenal in general when their football has been so fantastic?
Its the FOX poll so its credibility isn't that great, but i do think Arsenal are the number 1 club in the world one their current form.
It occurred to me this morning that if Arsenal stays on its current form, three or four years from now everyone in England except for north Londoners will be saying, "Anyone but the Gooners!" However, the season isn't over and we're still in the group stages of the Champions League, so, to borrow from my favorite line by the Wolff in "Pulp Fiction," let's not start sucking each other's d i c k s. That said, only injuries will slow us down as the season grinds on with league matches, European matches, league cup matches, FA Cup matches.... did I miss any? Up the Arse!
Tell you what, if they can win a few more games in Europe they will have a legitimate shout at it. Be better yet if they could face Real in the later stages of the CL. At the mo though it's still Real. They were last year and i don't see how Arsenal wining one away game in the CL could possibly be grounds for them replaceing Real in Europe, never mind the World.
why is arsenal even mentioned with madrid? madrid is the one that won the champions league, arsenal is having good games this year but remember what happened to them in europe last year. All of a sudden they start scoring lots of goals in europe and people think they are the best.
I think it would be fair to say that Arsenal are the world team of the month with excellent performances domestically and in European competition. To earn the title of team of the year or anything more we'll have to look at their trophy cabinet at the end of the season.
the gunners are right on arsenal derseves to be ahead of real, they are playing much more better and competitively than real both home and away in europe. real are playing well but they have yet to play some extra quality opposition as compared to the gunners. valencia, acmilan, inter, juventus, and indepediente deserve to be in that top ten as it is but man united and bayern should have dropped out by now.
The arse are playing some great football right now. Last season was a dream for them and this season is shaping up well. BUT to compare them with Real…I don’t know. I hope they get the chance to play each other in the CL this season, that would give us a better idea of how they really stack up. Real are the most successful team of all time and the arse would have to beat them pretty convincingly to be known as the “Top club team in the world” even for a day. So why not the Rapids...
Funny thinking that we’d be saying “anyone but Arsenal” as we say about manure. Because I don’t remember any team being disliked as much as manure. Other teams have made the top flight and although we’d all like to see “Our” team up there, we didn’t really ‘hate’ the top team for being successful. Liverpool had their share of success and a lot of envy but not the hate engendered by Manure.
yeah, but wasn't that last year? Doesn't actually watching games THIS year have anything to do with it? Last year is important, but Leverkusen did pretty well then, too. Would you say they're better than Arsenal too?
If Madrid is better than Arsenal due to a CL win than Id argue that Valencia is in fact number one in the world. They won LA LIGA, which is the "best" league in the world. So by this rationale you would have to claim they would be in fact better than Madrid. If Madrid cant even win there own League than they have no business being number one. The poll is simply one mans interpretation of teams play or a computer running a man made equation and coming up with a higher result. Its worthless.
I wouldn't go so far as to say it’s worthless. If nothing else, the poll indicates who was the winner of a popularity contest. Taken a couple years ago, the poll probably would have indicated ManU as the best club in the world. Polls say more about the poll-takers than the subject of the poll itself. Of course we should always take polls with a grain (or, in some cases, a box) of salt, especially when dealing with such a subjective matter as “best.” Once we’ve won the treble three years running, then I think we can claim to be the best!
What a totally futile argument. Real Madrid won the most important trophy in the club game last year. They are strongest on paper, but since when did paper win trophies? They also haven't won an away match in months and are in the middle of nowhere in their own league. Arsenal did the domestic double in a top-notch league and cup competition last year but failed (again) reasonably miserably in stronger international tournaments. Manchester United have done a treble and won consistently domestically, and performed well internationally, over a number of years. As have Bayern Munich. Milan are this week's flavour of the month (impressive everywhere, especially in Europe) accompanied by Juventus. On any given night, any one could be another. There is no winner here. I would suggest that for now Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Manchester United are the "big three" but that is not to say that others aren't equally good (or better) sides at this minute or couldn't, in the medium term, join that pantheon.
Captain, I'm not trying to have a go at you, you're certainly entitled to your opinion, but our voters, who are soccer media members from throughout North and South America, take the poll pretty seriously. I think it's as good as any other ranking out there, and if it helps build interest and encourage debate it can only be a positive thing.
Arsenal are a fantastic team, no doubt, but just because they are playing like this doesn't make them the best team in the world, true, they're consistant, and they have an excellent chance at winning the epl and CL, but it's too early to be tagging them with this kind of stuff. Man Utd have set the standard in the premiership, and Arsenal even if they win it this year would have only matched it, not beat it. The CL is anyones guess, Arsenal and Man Utd are looking great, Liverpool might also do ok, but theres also Real Madrid, Valencia and all the others that look formidable. In the CL though, Man Utd and Liverpool have a psychological advantage over their opponents because they do/have done well in the CL. imho if Man Utd keep playing like they are now, they could be better than Arsenal, the teams are similar and each team has equivelent players. Also, if Man Utd buy Shevchenko or El Nino when the window opens...
You would know better than I, but are they really considering buying Shevchenko? If so that would be dynamic for them in terms of cutting some baggage from the front line they are holding(ie Forlan). That way also Ole could do what hes best at, scoring from the bench late in the game with out having th undue stress of picking up all of Forlan's slack.
