Arsenal have been linked with unsettled Real Madrid striker Jose Guti. The Spanish international is frustrated with the lack of regular first team football he has played this season and is understood to be considering his future at the Bernabeu. Marca says Arsenal posted a scout to watch Guti in the Spanish Cup tie with Terrasa last week. Guti's salary at Real is well within Arsenal's budget and the Gunners know this is a prime time to speak to the player with his first team chances limited. The striker has two years left on his current deal.
I haven't seen Guti play much, so I'm not sure what kind of player he is. I am wondering though where he would fit in on this squad. Henry's obviously going to be the top striker on this team for years to come. Bergkamp's still a very creative force, although he's getting towards the end. At the other end of the spectrum is Jeffers, who's just starting to develop and looks like he's going to be a special player. That's not to say the Gunners shouldn't pursue him, but I don't know if he'd see much first-team action at Highbury either.
That's true, but if you're a player at Highbury and you're good enough, then you can go through, like what Jeffers is doing at the moment. However, if you're a reserve player at Real Madrid but you're better than the first team players, I'm sure the manager only picks his famous / popular players, even though they're not playing well. It looks like that to me anyway.
Guti used to get alot of time on the pitch but now lined up behind Ronaldo and Raul(perhaps the best in the world minus Henry) he wont see his time increase. In fact I believe he is now listed as a MF. If I remember correctly he is a scrappy player who can capitalize on defender mistakes and rebounds. I think he would compliment Henry well but I thought the same about Jeffers.
Guti is so much more versatile than Jeffers it isn't funny. I also like him more than Wiltord. He's not an out and out striker, but he can poach like the best of them. He's not a true midfielder, but he can dribble, set up others, mix it up near the box and score from the outside. He'd fit great in Wenger's scheme. He would be like Arsenal's answer to Paul Scholes.
