Perhaps I am confused....if I get Setanta, do I also have Setanta broadband and how do I know?

They may not be reducing their overall offerings but you can rest assured they will be reducing the offerings of the big 4 teams to get people to buy into this. You are missing the point of people's annoyance. Last year between Sentanta and FSC, we got every Arsenal game with the exception of most of the FA Cup games, which FSC conveniently made available only through PPV, unlike the other big 4 teams, which FSC aired mostly for free.

To do that you needed to order both pay packages from DirectTV. This year, it looks like we have to order both those packages and FSC broadband for the privilege of watching games online. This is blatant milking of the consumer. On top of that add the uncertainty of whether the bars can play the games if they are not equipped to provide online feeds and you may understand the level of frustration for some of us a little better and stop being an apologist for FSC. That last bit wasn't meant to sound cunty, just a little pissed over here.

Not to mention how last minute this is. It just doesn't look good on Fox.

well, if i am going to be an apologist, it would be nice if FSC could send some cash my way for doing it.

i just think we have been kind of spoiled being able to see just about every game on TV the past few years. just my opinion.

i completely agree with the last-minute stuff making Fox look bad. it's absurd.

They are two separate services of which you would have to pay for both if you wanted them. The ITVN route is basically the broadband service but you get a box that you hook up to your TV instead of going through your computer.

updating matters, i just spoke with the fine folks at setanta.

confirmed sunday's game is not on setanta or setanta xtra.

also, champions league first leg vs. sparta prague not on either, because there is a full slate of premiership games that day/night.

Actually, the ITVN route is the same as having Setanta on DirecTV, minus the Setanta Xtra feature. For example, if you look a listing on livesoccertv.com or soccertv.com, you'll see matches listed on Setanta USA and Setanta Broadband. Setanta USA is what you get on ITVN.

Well interestingly enough the Fados in Columbus has the match listed for Sunday at 6:55AM.......

Yeah, so does Nevada Smiths in NY - because they're getting their listings from soccertv.com. If they check today, they'll see that the listing is now updated to "FoxSoccer.com - Broadband" instead of Setanta Xtra.

SoccerTV.com has the Middlesbrough-Blackburn and Derby-Portsmouth games being shown live on the internet stream and replayed later on FSC. Just sayin.... It doesn't make any sense why the Arsenal wouldn't be shown on a delay. Obviously FSC wants to milk the size of the club. How many Derby fans would pay to watch Portsmouth-Derby on a stream when it si replayed an hour later?

Well, perhaps it's not one hour later, but several hours, if not days.

just talked to FSC guy. 2 matches live on broadband each weekend, one will be the saturday PM tape-delayed game and one will be a broadband-only game (ie: no TV airing). no pricing details because the deal isn't finalized yet. it will be front and center on foxsoccer.com when it is announced, hopefully tomorrow or thursday.

let's see if this is true. according to this theory, then we should see Chelsea, Man U and Liverpool on the broadband only quite a bit, too ... opening up spots for Arsenal on TV!

    How nice of them.

There goes being able to Tivo the match as well so I don't have to get up at the 7:00 on a Sunday to watch it.

You have to think that most of the big matches(Top 4 league matches, big derbies, etc) have been locked up by either Setanta or FSC already. However if the match gets moved that may give the channel an opt out since they may or may not be able air it. Then it goes back into bidding and this broadcast channel may be able to get it then.

With the deal not finalized yet you have to think that they won't be getting a lot of top club matches.

If it's reasonable - say under $5 per match - I would order the Fulham match on FSC Broadband, but I don't think a season ticket would be worthwhile since they will usually show the shite 10am matches.

Big Gooner and first time poster.

Up until a couple months ago I had Directv with FSC and Setanta. Have since moved and now have cable with FSC only. I was settled on getting Setanta broadband and resigned to put up with the quality issues to see The Arsenal.

This mystery FSC broadband thing has me up in arms. I really want to boycott it (have already sent a letter to FSC in protest). Arsenal better not be the season long gineau pig for this crap idea. They need some kind of "draw" to get people to buck up for the games. Who is gonna pay extra for Wigan vs. Derby, etc? I don't anticipate seeing any Man U or Chelsea games being "relegated" to FSC broadband.

I was so psyched for the start of the season, but now I may not see at least the first two league matches. As a kicker I have Sirius which is also not broadcasting the Arsenal/Fulham match. I cannot remember the last game I did not have access to an Arsenal match by some means.

    SO MY QUESTIONS:
Do these P2P internet things (Sopcast, PPMate, etc) work? Are they legit? OR, Is there an Arsenal pub anywhere near the Lehigh Valley in Pennsylvania.

    Thanks.

It sucks....but we are spoiled. Last season was the best ever for watching Arsenal and I guess I just assumed thats how it would be. The fact that some of us have been trying to get an answer for weeks about the Fulham game and we still don't really have an answer. (nothing on foxsports.com) is even more frustrating. That said the only reason Arsenal are not on Setanta or FSC for the first two weeks is because of a tube closing and an Intertoto birth. These things probably won't be that common and I'd guess 85% of our matches will be on tv. Most after all will be in the tv slots and only the rare game moved for Europe to sunday last minute will be on fox broadband. Considering where we were 5 years ago...I'd say we have it made. A little better customer service would be great, but I doubt either of these channels are rolling in it catering to the nat football diehards.

If anything I'm more pissed about no showing of the Sparta game...last year there were premiership games too when we played Dinamo Zagreb...the CL qualifers are pretty huge for us financially and I'm going to write Setanta about it. They should at least show the games on delay at 5:30 and 7:00 if they must show Pompey-United live.

It is not perfect (no setanta for people who can't get satellite, mac users unable to easily find torrents) but its better than the English have.

The Sparta Prague matches will probably be live on ATVO like last year.

Cheers for finding out...I just hope this broadband thing a) works on a Mac and b) is not too expensive, anything more than $5 a game would be taking the piss.

This might be helpful for those who are curious how the games are divided:

In a continuation of their current agreement Setanta Sports will be sharing matches with FSC based on the following schedule:

    Saturdays Time Channel

    12.45 p.m. GMT 7:45 a.m. ET Setanta Sports

    1st and 3rd pick 3 p.m. GMT 10 a.m. ET Setanta Sports

    2nd and 4th pick 3 p.m. GMT 10 a.m. ET Fox Soccer Channel

    5.15 p.m. GMT 12:15 p.m. ET Fox Soccer Channel

    Sundays* Time Channel

    13.30 p.m. GMT 8:30 a.m. ET Setanta Sports

    4 p.m. GMT 11 a.m. ET Fox Soccer Channel

    Mondays** Time Channel

    8 p.m. GMT 3 p.m. ET Setanta Sports

    * All incremental Sunday games on FSC.

** Other midweek games shared on the same basis as Saturday 3pm GMT games

This is verbatim from the original press release. Last year those early Sunday games were broadcast on FSC, it appears that won't be the case this year, hopefully this is the only game that is affected. If they start broadcasting the 2nd and 4th best games on Sat, it will be a problem.
